Biography

 

First Sergeant Matthew T. Stout
Unit Senior Enlisted Leader
Engineer Support Company

First Sergeant Matthew T. Stout is a native of Kingsport, Tennessee and enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1999. He completed recruit training aboard MCRD Parris Island with subsequent training and assignment as a Rifleman. He was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines in Johnson city, Tennessee, where he served as a SAW Gunner, Team Leader and Squad Leader.  
 
In 2004 LCpl Stout was deployed with Lima Co. 3rd Battalion 24th Marines in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and served as a Fire Team leader. Throughout this deployment LCpl Stout provided convoy security across western Iraq, from the Syrian and Jordanian boarders stretching west to Baghdad and south to Fallujah. 

Cpl Stout was augmented into JTF Katrina in support of Hurricane Katrina relief in 2005. He assisted COC operations and humanitarian efforts deploying from the USS Shreveport ported in New Orleans LA.  

In 2006, Sergeant Stout augmented into Alpha Co. 1st Battalion 24th Marines in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Throughout this deployment to Al Fallujah Sgt. Stout served as an Infantry Squad Leader. 

In 2009 Staff Sergeant Stout mobilized with Lima Co 3rd Battalion 24th Marines in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Throughout this deployment SSGT Stout served as Platoon Guide where he served as a Watch Chief for coalition forces across western Iraq. 

Returning from the deployment Staff Sergeant Stout transferring into the Individual Marine Augmentees in 2011 to serve as the Tennessee State Rep for the Marine for Life Program through May 2014.  

Returning from the IRR in 2016 Staff Sergeant Stout was assigned to Lima Co. 3rd Battalion 23rd Marines in as a Infantry Platoon Sergeant until he was mobilized as part of SPMAGTF SC18. Staff Sergeant Stout served as the SNCOIC of the El Salvador Training Team until January 2019.  
  
Staff Sergeant Stout was selected for Gunnery Sergeant April 2020 and assigned to Weapons Company 1st Battalion 24th Marines where he served as both the platoon sergeant for 81's platoon and CAAT platoon. 

In June 2023 Gunnery Sergeant Stout was Frocked to the rank of 1stSgt and was assigned to Engineer Support Company, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division in Baltimore, Maryland. 

1stSgt Stout's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star and Combat Action Ribbon
