SgtMaj Burkhardt graduated from MCRD, Parris Island, South Carolina in November of 1992, as a Private First Class. After completing MCT at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, he was assigned to MATSG-90, NATTC, NAS Memphis, Tennessee from January to May 1993 as a Basic Helicopter Mechanic Trainee. He was promoted to LCpl in May of 1993 and attended Naval Aircrew Candidate School at NATTC, NAS Pensacola, Florida from June to July of 1993.

 

LCpl Burkhardt was then assigned to HMT-303, MAG-39, MCAS Camp Pendleton, California for instruction as an AH-1W and UH-1N Helicopter Mechanic and UH-1N Crew Chief from July 1993 to January 1994. In January 1994, LCpl Burkhardt reported for duty to HMLA-269, MAG 29, MCAS New River, North Carolina as a UH-1N Crew Chief.

 

Cpl Burkhardt was attached to HMM-263 (REIN), 24TH MEU(SOC) from November 1994 until October 1995, participating in Operations DENY FLIGHT and PROVIDE PROMISE. Cpl Burkhardt returned to HMLA-269 and was promoted to Sergeant in February 1996.

 

Sgt Burkhardt attended Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course at MAWTS-1 in Yuma, Arizona from March to April 1996. At the completion of WTI training he was designated as the MAG-29 and HMLA-269 UH-1N Enlisted NATOPS Evaluator and served as the squadron’s Enlisted Aircrew Training Manager. In March 1997, Sgt Burkhardt was assigned to HMM-263(REIN), 24TH MEU(SOC) until May 1998. While deployed he participated in Operations JOINT GUARD, SOUTHERN WATCH and DESERT THUNDER.

 

Sergeant Burkhardt returned to HMLA-269 in May 1998 and participated in Operation BATTLE GRIFFIN, Trondheim, Norway in February of 1999. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in April of 1999 and assigned to HMM-263(REIN), 24TH MEU(SOC) from August 1999 until September 2000. While deployed with HMM-263(REIN), SSgt Burkhardt held the billets of H-1 Flight line SNCOIC, Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative, UH-1N WTCCI, and UH-1N NATOPS Instructor. During the deployment, he participated in Operation JOINT GUARDIAN in Kosovo and Macedonia.

 

SSgt Burkhardt returned to HMLA-269 in October 2000 and executed orders to HMLAT-303 for duty as a Crew Chief Training Instructor in January 2001. He was promoted to GySgt in November 2003 and served as the SNCOIC of UH-1N Crew Chief Training and the UH-1N NATOPS Evaluator. GySgt Burkhardt was transferred to MAWTS-1, MCAS Yuma, Arizona in November of 2004 and served as a UH-1N Crew Chief Instructor. In Jan 2006 GySgt Burkhardt was attached to HMLA-369, MAG-26(REIN) 2D MAW Forward in support of OIF 04-06 as an augment Crew Chief Instructor.

 

Upon promotion to 1stSgt in May 2008, 1stSgt Burkhardt transferred to 1st Battalion 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA and served as the Company 1stSgt for Charlie and H&S Companies. While at 1/4, he deployed in support of OIF and the 15th MEU. In April 2011, 1stSgt Burkhardt reported for duty with 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3d Marine Logistics Group, where he served as the Company 1stSgt for Bulk Fuel Company.  

 

In August 2012, SgtMaj Burkhardt was promoted and assumed duties as the 9th Engineer Support Battalion Sergeant Major. He was transferred to 2d Tank Battalion in April 2014 until April 2016 when he was assigned as the MACG-28 SgtMaj until April 2018. SgtMaj Burkhardt assumed his billet as the 4th MAW SgtMaj in June 2018.     

 

His personal decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Air Medal with one strike flight, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star.
