U.S. Marines participate in exercise Arctic Edge 2024 across various training locations in Alaska from Feb. 23, 2024 to March 11, 2024. The exercise consisted of High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) live-fire training, field testing of an AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), practicing C-130 aircraft long range logistical operations to include ingress and egress of personnel and equipment, live-fire machine gun ranges, and field training with a Marine Corps Cold Weather Infantry Kit (MCCWIK). The arctic conditions allowed the Marines to refine their tactics, techniques, and procedures in a cold weather environment while testing their equipment in the extreme weather conditions. The active component and reserve Marines, alongside Army and Air Force counterparts, proved they are prepared to serve in any clime and place of their choosing across the globe. Arctic Edge 2024 is a U.S. Northern Command-led homeland defense exercise demonstrating the U.S. military’s capabilities in extreme cold weather, joint force readiness, and U.S. military commitment to mutual strategic security interests in the Arctic region. U.S. Marines with Detachment Delta, 4th Law Enforcement Battalion, Marine Forces Reserve, deliver toys to children in 12 villages throughout the remote Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska, Dec. 17, 2023. The Alaska Marines delivered over 14,000 toys across the state for the local children. The Toys for Tots mission is a testament to the Marine Corps spirit in the last frontier, bolstering community relations while enhancing the Marines ability to operate in the Arctic. Arctic Care is a joint-service Innovative Readiness Training program exercise that allows service members to conduct real world training missions while providing assistance to Kodiak Island, Alaska residents. Marines with Marine Forces Reserve provide logistical support for the exercise, enabling fellow service members to provide no cost medical, dental, optometric and veterinary care to the community. Marines with 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve conducted exercise Arctic Eagle at Camp Grayling, Michigan, from April 4-14, 2016. The Marines joined soldiers from the Michigan National Guard’s 272nd Regional Support Group and Denmark’s Danish Home Guard at this joint service and international exercise. The exercise aligns with a mutual desire to address the defense of key infrastructure in the Arctic Circle.

It focuses on enhancing the interoperability and capacity of U.S. forces in peacetime support operations, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief. IRT Arctic Care brings medical, dental, and veterinary aid to 12 rural villages of Alaska, some as far as 150 miles from Kotzebue. The exercise is mostly a Reserve effort with the Marine Forces Reserve taking lead and receiving logistical and medical support from the National Guard, Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, and Air Force Reserve.
