MARINE FORCES RESERVE, New Orleans - -- AnyMouse is a Marine Corps wide program, which allows Marines to report safety concerns anonymously. The program allows the anonymous flow of safety concerns directly to the unit’s safety officer and commanding officer. The safety officer, in turn, is required to address each form and respond to the concerns, according to All Marine Message (ALMAR) 010/03.
Marine Forces Reserve hopes to have the program in place in the next couple months. Boxes, checked daily, will be located throughout MFR facilities where comments can be left. Reporting program forms also allow Marines to offer solutions to the hazards they see.
“I think it’s a really good program,” said Maj. Michael D. Riddle, MarForRes Headquarters Battalion executive officer. “It allows Marines who would typically be afraid to address concerns do so without fearing ramifications. I think I will receive much more information about hazards with the AnyMouse program in place.”
The AnyMouse program has existed in the Marine Corps and Navy aviation units since the 1950’s. It was originally intended as a means of encouraging flight personnel to make voluntary and anonymous reports of near accidents and incidents which they might not report through established channels and formal reporting systems.
“There are a lot of things here that some Marines may consider hazardous that other may not realize,” said Riddle. “The tiles in the hallway that someone can trip over, for example, or air conditioning not working in some areas. One person may overlook something that another may consider unpleasant.”
