27 Jan 2016 | Cpl. Ian Leones U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve

Marine administrative message 016/16 announces a change to the Department of Defense’s policy for Reserve Component members conducting annual training in a designated imminent danger pay area.

The Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness instituted a change in policy that authorizes Reserve Marines, assigned to either a Selected Marine Corps Reserve unit or to a command as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee, to be able to conduct the annual training requirement in an imminent danger pay area.

All requests for annual training in a designated imminent danger pay area must be submitted to and approved by the Director of Reserve Affairs prior to execution of the annual training event. Packages must include duty location, dates, supported requirement, cost estimate with special pay entitlements and justification.  Packages must be initiated by the SMCR member’s parent command and routed via the chain of command for proper endorsements for SMCR unit members or the respective Operational Sponsor for IMA Marines. They will be routed to the Director of Reserve Affairs via Reserve Affairs Personnel Policy. Packages must be sent electronically to the RAP organizational inbox (rap@usmc.mil) no less than forty-five days prior to execution of the annual training event.

Inactive Duty Training is not authorized in an imminent danger pay area.
