Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael Fay sketched this portrait of Gunnery Sgt. Rodger Hoke, range chief for 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, in August 2008 while documenting the battalion's Mojave Viper pre-deployment training. A 20-year veteran Reserve Marine, this will be Hoke’s fourth combat tour. Hoke recently went through a painful bone marrow removal surgery on June 20, 2008 to save the life of his brother, who has suffered from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for the past nine years.
