Lt. Noelle Griffith, of the U.S. Navy Reserve Nurse Corps, Fleet Surgery Team 9 from San Diego, instructs sailors from the 4th Medical Battalion in the operation of the Navy’s en route care system here June 11. This device is utilized by the U.S. Armed Forces to expeditiously manage life support systems while injured troops are transported from the a remote field environment to a better-equipped medical facility. The en route care training class was offered as part of exercise Javelin Thrust 2009, a large-scale exercise with more than 2,600 Marines and sailors. Javelin Thrust was designed to give reserve units practice in a wide range of combat and logistics capabilities to prepare Reserve units for their role in a deployed Marine Air Ground Task Force
