U.S. Marines and Marine Reservists take part in Exercise Northern Strike 2023 in Camp Grayling, Michigan, August 9, 10, and 11, 2023. Exercise NS23 is a premier reserve component training event that integrates both U.S. and partner nation readiness training to build interoperability and strengthen partnerships. NS23 is designed to challenge participants in an All-Domain training environment with multiple forms of convergence that advance interoperability across multicomponent, multinational, and interagency partners. NS23 is one of the National Guard’s largest joint, readiness producing exercises, held annually at Michigan’s National All-Domain Warfighting Center, which consists of Camp Grayling, the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, the Selfridge Air National Guard Base and other training areas. Northern Strike 17, a National Guard hosted exercise, brings together service members from across the U.S. Department of Defense as well as service members from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Latvia, Canada and Poland. Marine Forces Reserve participation in Northern Strike 17 focused on strengthening and refining mechanized, amphibious, land and air capabilities while operating in a joint and multinational capacity. Task Force 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment used Northern Strike 17 to gauge overall training and readiness levels as they prepare for Integrated Training Exercise 2018 and future mobilizations and deployments in 2019.

Marines with Charlie Company, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, participated in numerous simulated combat exercises at Exercise Northern Strike 16. In order to maintain proficiency in all aspects of combat, Reserve Recon Marines must practice exercises like combat parachute insertions.
