Wellness and Prevention Team
MFR SEAL - FLAT - 2022
U.S. MARINE CORPS FORCES RESERVE
New Orleans, Louisiana

The Wellness and Prevention Team (WPT) is a group of subject matter experts who are invested in promoting overall wellness throughout the force. Members include:

  • Director, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Director, Safety

  • Force Chaplain

  • Force Equal Opportunity Advisor

  • Force Psychologist

  • Force Sexual Assault Response Coordinator

  • Force Surgeon

  • Primary Prevention Integrator, MCCS

  • Prevention Program Manager, MCCS

  • Substance Abuse Specialist, MCCS

The mission of the WPT is to advise the Commander on matters relevant to individual readiness and develop and implement initiatives to both encourage comprehensive wellness and diminish risk of adverse outcomes.

So what does that mean? The WPT was created because MARFORRES recognizes that you, our people, are our most important assets. Our goal is not only to decrease adverse events, but to ensure that our people are taken care of. In the material world, you not only want to prevent a piece of equipment from breaking, you also want it to work efficiently and smoothly. How do you ensure that?  You conduct maintenance. While we acknowledge that people are much more complex and valuable than a machine; the principle stands. We want to aim not just to prevent worst case scenarios, but to help you feel that you are performing at your peak both at work and outside of it. To do that, we will promote best practices that will help you lead a healthier and more satisfying life.

Watch for WPT posts on social media for tips on sleep, spiritual wellness, healthy relationships, finances, mental performance, and more! You can also visit us at our website where you will find a repository of information on these best practices and resources to learn more.

Contact us by emailing wpt@usmc.mil We’re looking forward to engaging with you!

Feel free to contact the WPT with your questions at our email: WPT@usmc.mil

Does it ever feel like you’re walking uphill when it comes to accomplishing your goals? You’re not alone! A 2020 study found that approximately 54% of people do not meet their New Year’s resolution goals. This statistic has held up remarkably well, with a 2002 study also finding 55% who failed to reach their New Year’s resolution goals.

So how can we set ourselves up for success? The more specific, measurable, and attainable you can make your goal, the more success you are likely to have. Use the S.M.A.R.T. goal setting worksheet to help you perfect your goals.

Do you already have a specific, measurable, goal in mind, but you’re having a hard time improving performance? Mental rehearsal or performance imagery is a technique that can improve performance and lower performance-related anxiety or stress.

Measuring Spiritual Fitness

Scoring 300 on the PFT or CFT?  We can measure that.  But how do you track whether you are on the path to being spiritually fit?

Though an actual score is difficult to apply across our various experiences, there are some metrics which can assist you in assessing your trajectory over time.  Check out these two Spirituality Metrics:
Pursuing Meaning, Purpose, and Values
Service and Sacrifice for the Greater Good

Build Your Spiritual Readiness

Reps and Sets – we understand this when it comes to physical training.  But what does a comparable “leg day” look like in training for spiritual readiness.  What are the essentials for strengthening the spiritual core – that part of us upon which everything meaningful and productive depends?

This link Strategies to build your spiritual readiness | HPRC (hprc-online.org) provides a basic “Daily 6” as a good starting point.  From it, you can also develop your own routines to build inner strength from a higher purpose.

Spiritual Fitness FFI

How do warrior values which span diverse cultures, eras, and geography relate to questions only you can answer for yourself?  For millennia, warriors have sought and exhibited the priority of spiritual fitness.  The benefits extend far beyond the battlefield.  These twenty-two slides provide an introductory opportunity to consider internal matters relevant to warriors.
