ABOUT 

"Marines from 2nd Battalion 23d Marine Regiment will conduct mountain training exercises aboard Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport allowing Marines to sustain warfighting functions while participating in realistic combat training in a mountainous environment. The purpose of MTX is to facilitate increased readiness and to challenge units’ ability to plan and perform."

Lance Cpl. Kyle Smith works in the combat operations center here July 23 as part of Exercise Shared Accord 2011. Smith was born in South Africa before moving to the United States in 2004. SA is a bi-lateral military training exercise and humanitarian mission held annually throughout Africa. This year, the exercise brings together about 700 U.S. service members, most from the Marine Corps Reserve, and double that number in South African National Defence Force troops.
