Sergeant Major Tracy A. Linch

I&I SgtMaj, 25th Marines

Sergeant Major Tracy A. Linch was born in Pennsylvania. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1986. Private Linch graduated from recruit training at Parris Island South Carolina in December of 1986. He then went on to Bravo Co, Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, NC.

Upon graduation he went on to Guam for Marine Security Force duty where he was assigned to Guard Company. In 1988 he rotated back to the states where he was assigned to E Co 2nd Bn 9th Marines, 1st Marine Division where he served as a fire team leader and squad leader in first platoon.

He deployed to Okinawa on UDP and deployed during Operation Desert Storm/Shield. In June of 1991 he received orders to Parris Island as an Instructor at the Field Training Unit where he taught repelling, NBC and patrolling. In January of 1994 Sgt Linch received orders to recruiting duty. Upon graduation of recruiter’s school he was assigned to RS Western Pennsylvania.

After spending time as a canvassing recruiter he was assigned as the Officer Selection office at Penn State University where he was the Officer Selection assistant. In March of 1994 he received orders to 1st BN 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division where he was promoted to SSgt and served as a Platoon Sergeant in C Co and Weapons Company. SSgt Linch deployed to Okinawa on a UDP and to the Mediterranean Sea in December 2000 with BLT 1/8 where he served as the Platoon Sergeant for the Tactical Recovery of Personnel and Aircraft (TRAP) Force.

Upon returning from deployment he received orders to the Staff Non-commissioned Officer Academy Camp Lejeune where he served both as an Instructor and Chief Instructor for the Sergeants course and was promoted to GySgt and was moved down to be an Instructor at the Advanced Course. Gunnery Sergeant Linch received orders in February 2005 to 3rd BN 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division where he deployed to Iraq for OIF III as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for K Co.
Upon arriving back in the states he got promoted to First Sergeant and served as the company 1stSgt for Kilo Co. 1stSgt Linch received orders to Inspector-Instructor duty in Wilmington, NC, serving as the I & I 1stSgt for the unit. Upon completion of I & I duty he received orders to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2D Marine Logistics Group where he served as company first sergeant for Alpha Co where he deployed to Iraq 08.02 with CLB-2. Upon returning from deployment he served as the FGE Sergeant Major for 8th Engineer Support Battalion and was promoted to his current rank.

SgtMaj Linch then transferred to CLB-2 in December 2009 where he deployed in support of OEF 10.2 SgtMaj Linch received orders to Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command in June 2011 and served as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion. He deployed to Afghanistan from September 12 to June 13 in support of OEF, serving as the Special Operations Task Force West Sergeant Major as part of Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan. SgtMaj Linch is currently serving as the Regimental Inspector-Instructor Sergeant Major for 25th Marine Regiment.

His diverse 27 year-career includes assignments in the Infantry, Security Forces, Recruiting Duty, Formal Instructor, Marine Logistics Group, Reserve establishment and serving jointly with coalition Special Operations Forces.

His personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal Gold Star in Lieu of second Award, Purple Heart Medal Gold Star in Lieu of second Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal Gold Star in Lieu of forth Award with Combat Distinguishing Device, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Combat Action Ribbon Gold Star in Lieu of second Award and the Navy/Marine Corps Parachutist Insignia.
