Mark Capansky, a native of Woodstock, Virginia, is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2009. After graduating from The Basic Officer Course and Infantry Officers Course at The Basic School in 2010, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion 4th Marines in Camp Pendleton, California. During this time, he served as a rifle platoon commander with Company E and deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2011-2012. Upon redeployment to Camp Pendleton, First Lieutenant Capansky served as the Executive Officer for Company E with the Battalion Landing Team on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. In 2014, Captain Capansky transitioned to the Selected Marine Corps Reserve and joined Company B, 1st Battalion 25th Marines as the Executive Officer. In 2017 Captain Capansky activated and deployed to Tbilisi, Georgia as the Operations Officer for the Georgia Training Team – Resolute Support Mission. Upon return from this deployment Captain Capansky checked in as the Company Commander for Company A, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines. In 2019 Major Capansky activated and deployed with the company in supported of the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan. Upon return from this deployment in 2020 Major Capansky joined the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command in Norfolk, VA where he served as a joint planner in the Operations Functional Group. During this tour, Major Capansky was activated in April 2021 to support the Department of Health and Human Services’ Operation Artemis. In April 2022, Major Capansky activated and deployed to Stuttgart, Germany to support EUCOM’s global coordination of military assistance to Ukraine. Later that year, Major Capansky accepted long-term active-duty orders at 25th Marine Regiment where he served as Operations Officer and lead planner for the execution of the Integrated Training Exercise and UNITAS. In January 2025 he joined 1st Battalion, 25th Marines as the Executive Officer, where he served until December. In June 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Capansky assumed command of 1st Battalion, 25th Marines where he currently serves.
