Sergeant Major Brody J. Bourgeois is a native of Thibodaux, LA and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 23 June 2003. After completing recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, SC, Private Bourgeois reported to Fort Knox, KY for MOS training as a Tank Mechanic (2146). While there, he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal as the honor graduate and class leader. Lance Corporal Bourgeois’ first assignment was General Support Maintenance (GSM) Company, 2d Maintenance Battalion in Camp Lejeune, NC as a tank mechanic. In September 2004, he was meritoriously promoted to Corporal and then deployed to Al Taqaddum, Iraq with GSM Detachment, Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2d Force Service Support Group Forward in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February to September 2005. Shortly after returning from deployment, he was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant and then assigned as the Platoon Sergeant for Engines Platoon, GSM Co until June 2007, when he was honorably discharged from active duty and transferred to the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR).
In 2009, Sergeant Bourgeois transferred to the Selected Marine Corps Reserve, reporting to 4th Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), Marine Forces Reserve in New Orleans, LA for on-the-job training in the G1 Headquarters (HQ) as an Administrative Clerk with intent to conduct a lateral move. In 2010, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and the following year, attended the Intermediate Administrative Specialist Course on Camp Johnson, NC finishing as a distinguished graduate of class 5-11 as an Administrative Specialist (0151). Staff Sergeant Bourgeois served as Personnel Chief and Assistant Administrative Chief while assigned to 4th MAW, G1 HQ until his promotion to Gunnery Sergeant in 2015. Gunnery Sergeant Bourgeois then held numerous other billets including Administrative Chief and Company Gunnery Sergeant for 4th MAW SMCR HQ until being promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in April 2018.
First Sergeant Bourgeois' tours as a First Sergeant include Headquarters and Service (H&S) Company (redesignated as Battlespace Surveillance Company in 2020), Intelligence Support Battalion, Force Headquarters Group in Mobile, AL from 2018 to 2021; and H&S Company, 1st Battalion, 23d Marine Regiment in Houston, TX from 2021 to 2023. In 2021, he attended the Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL finishing as a distinguished graduate of class 21G. In April 2023, he was promoted to his current rank of Sergeant Major and assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron-473, Marine Aircraft Group-41, 4th MAW at Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, CA as Command Senior Enlisted Leader. In 2026, Sergeant Major Bourgeois was slated and assigned to his current billet as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of Combat Logistics Regiment 4, 4th Marine Logistics Group in Kansas City, MO.
Sergeant Major Bourgeois' personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, and Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
He is the head butcher at his family’s meat market in south Louisiana that has been in operation since 1891, spanning four generations. Additionally, he is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu and holds an Associate Degree of Applied Sciences from Delgado Community College and works as a Physical Therapist Assistant with a focus on home health and inpatient rehabilitation care.
