A native of Orange, California, Lieutenant Colonel Mallamo commissioned via Platoon Leaders Course in 2009 after graduation from American University, and attended The Basic School class Fox-09.  Upon graduation from TBS he proceeded to NAS Pensacola, Florida joining Marine Aviation Training Support Group-21 to begin Naval Aviator training. 

In December 2010, 2ndLt Mallamo reported to VT-27 ‘Boomers’ in Corpus Christi, Texas for Primary Flight Training. Upon completion of Primary, he checked into VT-31 ‘Wise Owls’ to conduct Advanced Multi-Engine Flight Training. 1stLt Mallamo received his wings in March 2012, achieving the Commodore’s List with Distinction for performance. 

1stLt Mallamo reported to MCAS Cherry Point, NC for initial training in the venerable KC-130J Super Hercules. He checked in to VMGR-252 ‘Otis’ in August 2012. During his time with Otis he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and to Moron, Spain in support of SPMAGTF-Crisis Response-Africa and Operation UNITED ASSISTANCE. 

Following his tour at VMGR-252, Captain Mallamo reported to Expeditionary Warfare School, Quantico, VA. He graduated in May 2016 and reported to the ‘Raiders’ of VMGR-352 at MCAS Miramar, CA. He deployed to SPMAGTF-Crisis Response-Central Command, serving as the Aviation Maintenance Officer and flying the KC-130J in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Following redeployment, Captain Mallamo attended the Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course 18-2 at MCAS Yuma, AZ, receiving the designation of WTI in the KC-130J. In summer of 2018, he deployed as the Operations Officer for VMGR-352 Detachment Alpha in support of Operations INHERENT RESOLVE and RESOLUTE SUPPORT.  

Ending active service in March 2020, Major Mallamo joined the Select Marine Corps Reserve Component, directly affiliating to the ‘Yankees’ of VMGR-452 in Newburgh, New York. While there, Major Mallamo assisted with the squadron’s transition from legacy KC-130T to the KC-130J, instructing transition pilots and furthering the squadron’s operational capability. In line with the Commandant’s guidance for Force Design, the ‘Yankees’ folded their colors in the Summer of 2022. He joined the ‘Rangers’ of VMGR-234 in Fort Worth, Texas where he has served as a Detachment OIC, Operations Officer, Annual Training Planner, and the Executive Officer. 

In his civilian career, he is a pilot for a commercial airline. He previously worked as a military contractor supporting C/KC-130 Flight Test for VX-20 at NAS Patuxent River.  

Lieutenant Colonel Mallamo’s awards include Air Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various unit and campaign awards.
