Major Hipolito Ozuna enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 2006 where he served as a Field Radio Operator (0621) with 3rd Battalion 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. He was selected to serve as a member of Embedded Training Team (ETT 6-4) as an advisor to the Afghanistan National Army (ANA) during Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time in Afghanistan, Major Ozuna was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Major Ozuna graduated with distinction from Texas A&M University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and Minor in Arab Studies. He completed his Master’s Certificate in Advanced International Affairs from the Bush School of Government and Public Services.
Major Ozuna was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps in November 2015, and, upon completion of The Basic School and Basic Communications Officer Course, he was assigned to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division. Major Ozuna served as Multi-Channel and Transmission Platoon Commander. Following a successful tour as platoon commander, Major Ozuna was selected to serve as the Executive Officer and Operations Officer for 2d Marine Division, Communications Company.
Major Ozuna served as an Associate Professor of Naval Science at Southern University Agricultural & Mechanical College. As the Marine Officer Instructor, he responsible for educating and training young men and women for service as commissioned officers in the Navy and Marine Corps. Major Ozuna graduated with distinction from Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in 2022.
Major Ozuna reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 where he served as the Company Commander of Headquarters and Service Company, assistant Squadron Operations Officer, and Company Commander of Alpha Company. During this time, Major Ozuna graduated from the Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course, the Command and Staff College, and was selected to serve as the Deputy Director of C4I/J6 for Task Force-Philippines.
In July 2026, Major Ozuna reported to Inspector Instructor Duty at Marine Reserve Station Cincinnati, OH.
Major Ozuna is authorized to wear the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Distinguishing Device, Combat Action Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
