Captain Matthew Dunn is a native of Rochester, NY. After graduating from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY he was accepted into Officer Candidate Course 223 in September of 2016. Upon accepting his Commission in November of 2016, Captain Dunn successfully completed The Basic School (TBS) Class 2-17, and Infantry Officer Course (IOC) Class 4-17, aboard MCB Quantico, and Light Armored Reconnaissance Leaders Course (LARTC) Class 1-18, aboard MCB Pendleton.
In 2018, Captain Dunn reported to Company E (Echo), 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion as Platoon Commander. During his time as Platoon Commander, he participated in Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) 4-18, and Trident Juncture in the Kingdom of Norway. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in 2018. In 2019, then 1st Lieutenant Dunn was hand selected to serve as the Senior Infantry Advisor for the Georgia Deployment Program Georgia Training Team Resolute Support Mission Rotation 10 (GDP GTT Roto X). Upon Completing Marine Corps Foreign Security Forces Advisor Course (MAC) he deployed to the Republic of Georgia to train and Mentor the instructor Cadre of the Krtsanisi Training Center (KTC) in their efforts to prepare the 12th Georgian Infantry Battalion for combat operations at Bagram Air Field. During the Mission Readiness Exercise (MRE) aboard USAG Bavaria, Hohenfels, then 1st Lieutenant Dunn acted as the Operations Officer in addition to his duties as Senior Infantry Advisor. Upon completion of the MRE, the 12th Georgian Infantry Battalion was certified for Combat Operations and Deployed to Bagram Air Field. Upon his return from the Republic of Georgia, he reported to Winter Mountain Leaders Course (WMLC), Class 1-19. After graduating WMLC 1-19, 1st Lieutenant Dunn reported back to Company E, 4th LAR BN as Company Executive Officer. During his tour as Executive Officer he participated in multiple company and battalion level exercises including ITX 4-23. He was promoted to Captain in 2020.
In October of 2023, Captain Dunn, reported to Headquarters and Service Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion aboard MCB Pendleton as the Assistant Battalion Operations Officer (S3A). During his tour as the Bn S3A, Captain Dunn assisted in the planning of multiple company level training events in preparation for Battalion Annual Training at the Army Nation Training Center NTC. During the execution of the Battalion Annual Training at NTC, Captain Dunn served as the Executive Officer for Company A, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion due to manning short falls.
In October of 2024 he assumed Command of Company E, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. Captain Dunn's personal decorations include: Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold Stars in lieu of 3rd Award.
