Colonel Miller graduated from Maritime College with degrees in Business and History and received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC). After graduating from The Basic School in November 2001, he attended the Logistics Officer School at Camp Johnson, NC.
Upon graduation from Logistics Officer School, he was assigned to Support Company, 2nd Transportation Support Battalion, 2D Force Service Support Group (FSSG), Camp Lejeune, NC, where he served as a Motor Transport Platoon Commander. In January 2003, he deployed to Kuwait as part of the Landing Force Shore Party. Three months later, he and his Marines pushed into Iraq to provide logistical support during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon his return in July 2003, he assumed the billet of Battalion Logistics Officer and Headquarters and Service Company Commander, 2D Medical Battalion, 2D FSSG. In February 2005, he deployed to Al Anbar Province, Iraq with Combat Logistics Battalion–8 as the Assistant Operations Officer and Regimental Combat Team–8 Liaison Officer. He was responsible for coordinating all logistical support to the Regimental Headquarters and three infantry battalions.
In October 2005, he was selected to assist with the restructuring of the Marine Corps’ logistics units, resulting in the development of the Marine Logistics Group (MLG). He was responsible for defining support relationships and processes, and served in this capacity until December 2005 when he joined 1st Combat Engineer Battalion (CEB), 1st Marine Division. Upon his arrival, he performed as the Assistant Logistics Officer for 1st CEB until March 2006 when he transferred to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines as the Battalion Logistics Officer. Shortly after his arrival at 2/4, the Battalion was slated as the Battalion Landing Team for the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). As the Battalion S-4 Officer, he provided logistical support to over 1,200 Marines and Sailors from units across the Division. The 15th MEU deployed in September 2006 and was quickly re-assigned to support the surge of military forces into the Iraqi theater. To meet operational requirements, BLT 2/4 was sent to Haddith and Barwahna to conduct combat operations. Upon his return from Iraq, he transferred to 5th Marine Regiment and served as the Regimental Motor Transport and Food Service Officer, departing active duty in December 2007.
Colonel Miller moved to Louisville, KY and joined corporate America. In July 2008, he joined the Force Readiness Assessment and Assistance Program (FRAAP) out of New Orleans, LA as a Senior Logistics Inspector, holding this billet until October 2011 when he joined Echo Co, 4th Tanks, 4th Marine Division out of Fort Knox, KY. He was mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 12-1 and served as the Commanding Officer, Headquarters and Service Company and Battalion Logistics Officer, 1st Maintenance Battalion (-) REIN, 1st Marine Logistics Group (FWD). In December 2011, he completed his Master of Business Administration from the Saunders School of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology.
Upon return from deployment, he joined 4th Marine Logistics Group, Forward, EAST as the Operations Officer until it was deactivated in October 2013. Shortly after deactivation, he joined Combat Logistics Battalion 25 as the Executive Officer, serving in this capacity until July 2017. He assumed Battalion Command of Combat Logistics Battalion 451 in 2018 and turned over command in2020 at which time he transferred to serve as the Executive Officer of Combat Logistics Regiment 45 (CLR 45). He subsequently transitioned to serve as the Reserve G-3/5 for 4th Marine Logistics Group until May of 2025 when he was promoted to the rank of Colonel and assumed the role as Senior Reserve Advisor Combat Logistics Regiment–4.
Colonel Miller’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Select Marine Corps Reserve Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
