First Sergeant Acosta assumed his current assignment as Company First Sergeant at 6th Distribution Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 4 on January 2nd 2026.
He enlisted in the Marines Corps out of Shreveport, Louisiana in June of 2001 and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego on July 23, 2001. After graduating from Boot Camp in October 2001, he then attended the School of Infantry in San Diego, Ca. He was assigned to Bravo Company 1st Battalion 23rd Marine Regiment in Bossier City, Louisiana after completion in December 2001.
In 2002, Private First Class Acosta was immediately deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). He served as an infantrymen conducting security patrols, post standing on the 21 mile fence line and reactionary forces securing the perimeter against unauthorized entry. He was then redeployed to Camp Lejeune, NC to support the Military Police reenforcement mission from March - May 2001. He was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in March 2002.
In 2004, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal receiving number one in the division. Assigned to Bravo Co 1st Battalion 23rd Marines he was mobilized to Twentynine Palms, California in preparation for deployment to Iraq in August of 2004. While serving as an Infantry Fire Team Leader, Corporal Acosta served in the Battle of Hit in October, Second Battle for Fallujah in November, and Silent Night in Ramadi. He returned from Iraq in May of 2005 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2006.
In 2009, Sergeant Acosta was reassigned to the Marine For Life where he served as a Representative for the Central Region. He supported Marine veterans, reserves, and active duty service members transitioning into the civilian workforce. In May of 2010, Sergeant Acosta was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In 2010, Staff Sergeant Acosta volunteered for deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Assigned to Bravo Company 1st Battalion 23rd Marines, Staff Sergeant Acosta volunteered to support NATO training Mission Afghanistan and deployed to Helmand Provice in support of training the Afghanistan Police Officers. He was then reassigned as Coalition Forces Site Commander- Camp Shouz, leading an Afghanistan Border Police Training Center returning home in 2011.
In 2012, Staff Sergeant Acosta was assigned Weapons Company 1st Battalion 23rd Marines in Austin, TX as the 81 millimeter mortar section Platoon Sergeant. He served from March of 2012 until March of 2015.
In 2015, he transferred to the Reserve Support Program Region 4 supporting Inactive Ready Reserve Marines until June of 2016 when he was selected and promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
In 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Acosta was assigned to Bravo Co 1st Battalion 23rd Marines as Weapons Platoon Commander. In 2017 conducting the Baltops Mission for annual training, he was tasked with taking his platoon on a Polish ship and conducting coordinated beach landing missions with multiple nations. Gunnery Sergeant Acosta assumed the role of Company Gunnery Sergeant in 2017 and served until 2019.
In 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Acosta was assigned to the Marine for Life, Headquarters Marine Corps Family Readiness Division where he served as a Marine For Life Representative in the Central Region in support of Marine veterans, reserves, and active duty service members transitioning into the civilian workforce. Covering multiple states, he also managed the social media platform for the Central Region.
In 2023, Gunnery Sergeant Acosta was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in June, and assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 23, CLR 4 in Fort Lewis, WA in September. He was instrumental with improving retention, Command Climate results, worked to have cohesive team to achieve 96% FRAPP inspection results. He was a critical spearhead leader and insured a successful Force Modernization transition for the Battalion.
First Sergeant Acosta's personal awards include the Joint Services Commendation Metal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Metal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Metal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
