Lieutenant Colonel Carlo Scott reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, in September 2008. After graduating from The Basic School in April 2009, he remained in Quantico to complete the Infantry Officer Course, graduating in June 2009. During this period, he was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant. Upon completion of the Infantry Officer Course, First Lieutenant Scott reported for duty with 2d Battalion, 9th Marines, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
During his time with 2d Battalion, 9th Marines, Lieutenant Colonel Scott deployed three times while serving in a variety of billets. As the Weapons Platoon Commander for Company F, he deployed to the Caribbean in support of Southern Partnership Station–Caribbean 2009 as part of the first Security Cooperation Marine Air-Ground Task Force. He later deployed to the Marjah District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 10.2, where he served as an advisor to 2d Company, 6th Kandak, 1st Brigade, 215th Corps, Afghan National Army.
Following 2d Battalion, 9th Marines’ return to the United States and a condensed workup period, First Lieutenant Scott was reassigned as the battalion’s Assistant Operations Officer and was promoted to Captain in June 2011. In December 2011, 2d Battalion, 9th Marines again deployed to the Marjah District in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 12.1, returning to Camp Lejeune in June and July 2012.
In August 2012, Captain Scott reported to the History Department at the United States Naval Academy. During his assignment, he taught two courses over six academic semesters while also supporting Marine Corps training, recruiting, and accession initiatives.
Captain Scott transitioned from active duty and reported to 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, in October 2015. He initially served as a Rifle Platoon Commander with Bravo Company in Londonderry, New Hampshire, before assuming command of Headquarters and Service Company at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, in August 2016. He was promoted to Major in August 2017 and returned to Bravo Company in September 2017, commanding the company until November 2018.
Major Scott subsequently transferred to the Individual Ready Reserve and completed Command and Staff College through the College of Distance Education and Training, graduating in June 2020. In August 2020, he joined 2d Battalion, 25th Marines, where he served as the Battalion Executive Officer. He completed his tour with the Empire Battalion in May 2022.
In June 2022, Major Scott transferred to the MAGTF Staff Training Program Individual Mobilization Augmentee Detachment, where he served as a MAGTF Operations Officer on the Plans and Assessments Team. He was promoted to his current rank in April 2024 and assumed command of 3d Battalion, 25th Marines, in September 2025.
Lieutenant Colonel Scott is a 2007 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he studied history, Arabic, and German. He holds a master’s degree in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies from the University of Cambridge and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, one with the Combat “V” device, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
