Major Benjamin Patterson is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school in 2006, he attended Southwest Oklahoma State University. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Major Patterson earned his commission after attending Officer Candidate School in 2011 followed by The Basic School (TBS) in January 2012. Following graduation from TBS, he attended the Marine Artillery Officer Basic Course (MAOBC). Upon completion of MAOBC, he reported to 2d Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment for a one year active duty experience tour and was assigned to Battery E as a Fire Direction Officer. After a six-month pre-deployment workup, the unit deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Post-deployment, in January 2014, Major Patterson reported to 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment and was assigned as the Liaison Officer for Battery Q.
In May 2018, Major Patterson transitioned to 2d Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment and was assigned as the Assistant Operations Officer. In August 2019 Major Patterson was assigned to Battery F as the Battery Executive Officer where he later became Battery Commander from May 2021 to May 2023. As Battery Commander, he deployed Battery F to Okinawa, Japan in support of Unit Deployment Program 22.2 from May to November 2022. Upon completion of the deployment, he received orders to Command and Staff College (CSC) funded weekend seminar from August 2023 to May 2025.
Upon graduation from CSC, Major Patterson returned to 2d Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment where he served as Logistics Officer. In December of 2025, Major Patterson checked into 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment where he took command of Headquarters Battery in February 2026.
His personal awards include: the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
