Lieutenant Colonel David Wood was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 2008 upon graduating from Middlebury College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Following The Basic School and the Logistics Officer’s Course, he reported to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as the Motor Transport and Maintenance Management Officer and subsequently as the S-4A, overseeing the Armory, Food Service, and Ammunition sections.
In March of 2011, he deployed to Sangin, Afghanistan, with 1st Battalion, 5th Marines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving as the Battalion Logistics Officer (S-4). Upon redeployment, he supported Summer Mountain Warfare Training in Bridgeport, California, and earned a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Norwich University.
In July of 2012, he reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 13 as the S-4. Following the MEU pre-deployment training program, he deployed with the 13th MEU in support of Westpac 13-2 as the Battalion S-4 and Executive Officer of Troops aboard USS Harpers Ferry. Upon returning, he served at Vanderbilt University NROTC in Nashville, Tennessee, as the Marine Officer Instructor and unit operations officer, introducing the fully accredited Fundamentals of Maneuver Warfare course across the NROTC enterprise. During this assignment, he earned a Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University.
In July of 2017, following his transition from active service, he joined 23rd Marine Regiment as the Regimental S-4, supporting the Service Level Training Exercise (ITX 4-18) as the MAGTF Command Element S4. In September of 2020, then Major Wood transferred to Combat Logistics Battalion 23 to serve as the Battalion Executive Officer. After his tour, he attended the Joint Combined Warfare School at the
National Defense University, earning his JPME-II certification.
In September of 2022, he joined the Marine Innovation Unit as the S-5 Plans and Strategy Officer. On 1 February 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Wood assumed his current duties as Commanding Officer, Combat Logistics Battalion 23.
His professional military education includes Expeditionary Warfare School (DEP), Command and Staff College (DEP), Joint Combined Warfare School-Hybrid (JCWS), and Air War College (current student DEP).
Lieutenant Colonel Wood’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with silver star in lieu of sixth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
