Biography

 

Lieutenant Colonel Joseph J. Zwiller
Commanding Officer
Combat Logistics Battalion 23

Lieutenant Colonel Zwiller enlisted in the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program in December 1994 with the 4th SMU at Raleigh, NC, while a student at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.   After completing basic training at Parris Island in 1995 he attended Platoon Leaders Course Junior and Senior in 1996 and 1997 and was commissioned upon graduation from UNC in 1998.  Following the Basic School and Logistic Officer Course, he was assigned to 2nd Landing Support Battalion, 2nd Transportation Battalion and 1st Battalion, 8th Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC.  As a member of 1/8, then Captain Zwiller completed a deployment with the 26th MEU(SOC), including operations in Iraq.  His last assignment on active duty, ending in 2007, was with the Naval Discharge Review Board, Washington D.C.

In 2009,  Captain Zwiller once again joined the Selected Marine Corps Reserve serving as the logistics officer for 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines in Chicago, IL and as the commanding officer of Engineer Support Company in Battle Creek, MI.  Since 2013, LtCol Zwiller has served in the IMA as a logistics officer and planner at the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command, Marine Corps Installations West, and Marine Forces Pacific.  LtCol Zwiller is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College, Air War College, and the Canadian Joint Reserve Command Course.  He holds graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Michigan State in business and education.

His personal decorations include a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal.  He resides in Southwest Michigan with his spouse and five sons.
