Major Andrew M. Buck

Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment

Major Buck first enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2005 on a reserve contract.  In late 2005 he was activated as an individual augment and received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 1.  For deployment to Iraq he was detached from the battalion and sent to Al Qa’im, Iraq.  There he served as the radio liaison between Army “dust off” and a naval shock trauma platoon. Upon redeployment to CONUS, in 2007 he remained on active status and transferred to 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion as a vehicle commander.  The battalion deployed to Al Taqqadum/ Habbinyah in early 2008; his section was responsible for a route security and as a quick reaction force in rotation. In late 2008 following redeployment and promotion to sergeant he assumed a reserve status.

Major Buck commissioned into the Marine Corps in August 2012, following graduation from The University of Akron with a degree in History and The Classics.  In October 2013, he checked into 1st Platoon, Alpha Company 1-14 at The Basic School.  Following TBS he attended the Infantry Officer Course 1-15.  Upon graduating he was assigned to Baker Company 1st Battalion, 7th Marines as a Rifle Platoon Commander.  In October 2015, the battalion deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, with Baker Company specifically establishing a joint firebase in Al Taqqadum Iraq in support of the Ramadi counter-offensive.

Following redeployment to CONUS, Fist Lieutenant Buck executed PCA orders to Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 4th Marines where he served as the Company Executive Officer.  In early 2017 the battalion deployed as the ground combat element for Marine Rotational Forces Darwin. First Lieutenant Buck was assigned as a Detachment Commander in support of exercise Koa Moana aboard the USNS Sacagawea.  During deployment he received his promotion to Captain.

Captain Buck reported to The Basic School in January 2018, where he was assigned to the Maneuver Section as a Platoon Reinforced Package Primary. In December 2018, he was assigned to Bravo Company to serve as a Staff Platoon Commander and followed this tour with Fox Company. Following his time at The Basic School, Captain Buck attended Maneuver Captain’s Career Course in Fort Benning, Georgia.

In December of 2020, Captain Buck reported to Baker Company 1st Battalion, 7th Marines for assignment as the Company Commander. In the summer of 2021, the Company deployed to Australia, as part of Marine Rotational Force-Darwin. Upon completion of this tour Captain Buck reported to Task Force 51.5 aboard NSA Bahrain. There he was promoted to Major and served as a Watch Officer and as an Action Officer. In June of 2023 he assumed his current duties as Inspector Instructor for Company L, Third Battalion, Twenty-Fifth Marines.

Major Buck’s Personal awards include the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
