Captain McGilvray is from rural southern Oregon, growing up on a cattle ranch. He attended the University of Colorado in Boulder on a Marine Corps NROTC scholarship where he graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and was commissioned in 2014. After completing Infantry Officer Course, he served as a rifle platoon commander and assistant operations officer with 2D Battalion 1ST Marines during the battalion's Unit Deployment Program to Japan. In 2018 his active duty service ended, and he moved to Zanesville Ohio and remained in the inactive reserves until joining Kilo Company, 3D Battalion 25TH Marines in 2020. During his time with Kilo Company, he served as a rifle platoon commander and fire support team leader during Integrated Training Exercise 4-21 and RAVENEX 22.6. Captain McGilvray then joined Weapons Company, 3D Battalion 25TH Marines in 2022 as the 81mm platoon commander. He later served as the Company Executive Officer and assumed command in December of 2023. During his time with Weapons Company, he participated in Battalion Annual training exercise at Camp Garfield and ITX 4-23.
He was promoted to the rank of Captain in August of 2019. Captain McGilvray is currently serving as the Weapons Company 3D Battalion 25th Marines Company Commander and he resides in Zanesville, OH.
