Lieutenant Colonel Shawn C. Koss
Inspector-Instructor
6th Communication Battalion

Lieutenant Colonel Shawn Koss commissioned in the United States Marine Corps in December 2006 from Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated the Basic Officer Course in July 2007 and Basic Communications Officers Course in December 2007.

Lieutenant Colonel Koss' operational assignments include 9th Communication Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, Camp Pendleton, California from 2008 to 2011.  He served as a platoon commander for multiple communications platoons between January 2008 and December 2009, during which time Lieutenant Colonel Koss deployed to Camp Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer for Company A from 2010 to 2011 where he deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  He transferred to Marine Forces Cyberspace Command, Fort Meade, Maryland from 2011 to 2014 where he served as a watch officer, the Deputy Current Operations Officer, a compartmented information control officer, and a future operations planner. He then transferred to Marine Wing Communications Squadron-28, Marine Air Control Group-28, 2D Marine Aircraft Wing, Cherry Point, North Carolina from 2015 to 2018 where he served as the Bravo Company Commander and the Squadron Operations Officer.  Lieutenant Colonel Koss was selected for command and reported to 6th Communication Battalion, Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve in Brooklyn, New York to serve as the Inspector-Instructor and Site Commander effective June 3, 2023.

Lieutenant Colonel Koss served outside of the operating forces from 2021 to 2023 at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland as an Electrical and Computer Engineering Instructor and Senior Mentor.

Lieutenant Colonel Koss is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School, Advanced Communications Officer Course, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, and Marine Corps Command and Staff. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of New Mexico, a Master of Science in Information Systems Technology Management from George Washington University, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Naval Postgraduate School. 

Lieutenant Colonel Koss' personal decorations include a Meritorious Service Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (3).
