Sgt Cahir died from wounds sustained while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 4th Civil Affairs Group, based out of Washington D.C. While deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, his unit was attached to Brigade Headquarters Group, Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan. He died on August 13, 2009.
