Capt. Letendre died while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to the Inspector and Instructor Staff, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve in Plainville, Connecticut. He died on May 3, 2006.
