Biography

 

Sergeant Major Carl N. Lorio
Sergeant Major, 6th Communication Battalion

Sergeant Major Lorio completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island where he graduated in August 1991.  He was then assigned to Aberdeen, MD Proving Grounds for Basic Armors School. In December 1991, Lance Corporal Lorio received orders to Marine Corps Air Station Futema, Okinawa, Japan.  Lance Corporal Lorio was later re-assigned to the range at Camp Hanson, Okinawa as the range Armor. In February 1993, Lance Corporal Lorio reported into Marine Security Guard Battalion, Quantico, VA.  Upon graduation, he was assigned to American Embassy La Paz, Bolivia and promoted to Corporal.

In July 1994, Corporal Lorio received orders to his second post at the American Embassy Tel Aviv, Israel.  In December of 1995 Sergeant Lorio completed his second Marine Security Guard tour and left active duty.

In January 1996, Sergeant Lorio joined the Reserve Component, serving with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines in Harrisburg, PA.  From 1996 until December 2001 he held various billets, to including that of Platoon Sergeant.  Staff Sergeant Lorio completed annual training in Bridgeport California, the Combined Arms Exercise in 29 Palms, CA, and Battle Griffin in Norway.

Echo Company was activated in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in January 2002, whereupon it mobilized to Camp Lejeune, NC.  During that period, Staff Sergeant Lorio attended Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Course, Monitor Survey Course, and the Active Duty Infantry Platoon Sergeant course.
In January of 2003, Staff Sergeant Lorio was re-activated in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and deployed to Iraq as a Platoon Sergeant, returning CONUS in September 2003. 

After activation, Staff Sergeant Lorio held various billets, to include Machine Gun Section Leader and Weapons Platoon Sergeant.  He then attended the Reserve Infantry Officer’s Course in July 2004, graduating as Honor Man.  In February 2005, Staff Sergeant Lorio was assigned the billet of Company Gunnery Sergeant for the duration of Exercise Battle Griffin in Norway.  Upon return, he became the Weapons Platoon Commander. 

In May 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Lorio was activated in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and held the billet of Weapons/4th Platoon Commander, operating primarily in the town of Rutbah, Iraq.

Upon returning in April 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Lorio was the Echo Company Gunnery Sergeant until his promotion to First Sergeant in May 2010.  First Sergeant Lorio transferred to Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines, completing his tour in May of 2013.  First Sergeant Lorio was then transferred to Maintenance Services Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 25.

In May 2015, Sergeant Major Lorio was promoted to his current rank and assigned as the Squadron Sergeant Major, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 48. In May 2018, Sergeant Major Lorio was reassigned as the Battalion Sergeant Major, 6th Communication Battalion, Brooklyn, New York.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with gold star in lieu of 2nd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with gold star in lieu of 2nd award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
