Sergeant Major Charles L. Pierson was raised in Griffin, GA and enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 2002. After completing recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, and upon completion of Marine Combat Training and MOS school, he was assigned the MOS 6072, Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic.
In September 2003, Lance Corporal Pierson arrived at his first duty station, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 29, at Marine Corps Air Station New River, Jacksonville, NC. In July 2004, he was attached to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 269 and deployed to Iraq with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In February 2005, Lance Corporal Pierson returned to MALS 29, and was promoted to the rank of Corporal in July 2005. In August 2005, he attached to HMLA 167 where he again deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In March 2006, Corporal Pierson returned to MALS 29, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in July 2006. In January 2007 he deployed with MALS 29 as the Air Combat Element in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom until December 2007.
In March 2008 Sergeant Pierson received orders to Marine Wing Liaison Kadena, Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1, in Okinawa, Japan where he served as Support Equipment Detachment Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, and Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative.
In January 2010, Sergeant Pierson received orders to MALS 39 where he served as the GSE Production Control Chief and Quality Assurance Representative. He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in November 2011.
In May 2013, Staff Sergeant Pierson received orders to Blount Island Command, Jacksonville, FL, where he served as a Depot Level Quality Assurance Representative for the Maritime Prepositioning Force and the Marine Corps Prepositioning Program – Norway, and Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In September 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Pierson received orders to MALS 11 where he served as the GSE Division Chief and Squadron Operations Chief. In March 2018, he reported to Marine Aircraft Group 11 to serve as the Headquarters Company First Sergeant.
In February 2020, Gunnery Sergeant Pierson received orders to MALS 36 in Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Quality Assurance Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge. He was selected to First Sergeant in November of 2020.
In May of 2021, First Sergeant Pierson reported to 3rd Transportation Battalion, 3D Marine Logistics Group to assume duties as Company First Sergeant. In January of 2023 he reported to 3rd Intelligence Battalion, and in 2024 he was selected to serve at III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group as the HQ Company First Sergeant.
In July of 2025 First Sergeant Pierson reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 8 and was promoted to Sergeant Major in September. In October 2025 Sergeant Major Pierson assumed his current duties as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Site Support, Marine Aircraft Group 49, at MCAS New River.
Sergeant Major Pierson's education includes an Associates of Arts Degree in General Studies, Magna Cum Laude, from National University. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from National University. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of fourth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of third award, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
