Sergeant Major Jeffrey A. Reider is a native of New Haven, CT. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in May of 1995 and underwent recruit training at Golf Company, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA.
In October 1995, Sergeant Major Reider completed Infantry Training School at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was assigned to Weapons Company, 2d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, for duty as a Mortar Man. He served in a variety of billets from Ammo Man to FDC Chief.
Sergeant Major Reider was then transferred in March of 1997 to Marine Security School and upon completion he served as a watch-stander at U.S. Embassies Bridgetown, Barbados and Amman, Jordan. Outside of his primary duties as a watch stander, he was assigned numerous support duties to include; Supply NCO, REACT NCO, and Training NCO.
In February 2000, Sergeant Major Reider left active duty to pursue his education. In January 2001 Sergeant Major Reider enrolled at The George Washington University and joined Delta Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division. While with Delta Company, Sergeant Reider served as Mortar Section Leader and Weapons Platoon Sergeant.
In March 2003, Sergeant Major Reider deployed with Delta Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion to Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sergeant Major Reider participated in numerous Task Force's while in Iraq and served as Mortar Section Leader, Weapons Platoon Sergeant, LAV-25 Vehicle Commander and Scout while participating in combat operations. Delta Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion redeployed CONUS in October 2003.
In January 2005, Sergeant Major Reider finished his degree from The George Washington University with BA in Political Science. He began his career as an Analyst in March of 2005.
In March 2008, Delta Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion was mobilized to augment 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in support Operation Iraqi Freedom 8.2. Sergeant Major Reider served as 3d Platoon Sergeant. Delta Company redeployed CONUS in October 2008.
In December 2008, Sergeant Major Reider transferred to 4th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), Force Headquarters Group. While at 4th ANGLICO, Gunnery Sergeant Reider served as a Fire Control Team Chief, a Supporting Arms Liaison Team Platoon Sergeant, and Company Gunnery Sergeant.
Sergeant Major Reider mobilized in March 2010 as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee to Task Force Paladin as a Weapons Technical Intelligence (WTI) Operator to Combined Explosives Exploitation Cell (CEXC) South/South West, Helmand Province, Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. While there, Sergeant Major Reider was attached to U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Five. Sergeant Major Sergeant Reider led a Combined-Joint CEXC operation consisting of five nations and all four U.S. Services as the Senior Enlisted/Staff Non Commissioned Officer in Charge. Sergeant Major Reider redeployed CONUS in October 2010.
In March 2012, Sergeant Major Reider was selected for First Sergeant and reported in May 2012 to Echo Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Syracuse, NY as Company First Sergeant.
In March 2014, Sergeant Major Reider was reassigned to Delta Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Quantico, VA as Company First Sergeant.
In May of 2016, Sergeant Major Reider was reassigned to Bridge Company Bravo, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group, Folsom, PA as Company First Sergeant.
In March of 2017 Sergeant Major Reider was promoted to his current rank and assigned to Intelligence Support Battalion, Force Headquarters Group, New Orleans, LA as Battalion Sergeant Major.
In May of 2019 Sergeant Major Reider was reassigned to 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Baltimore, MD as Battalion Sergeant Major.
In April of 2020 Sergeant Major Reider was reassigned to 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Fort Devens, MA as the Regimental Sergeant Major.
In June of 2022 Sergeant Major Reider was reassigned to Marine Aviation Training Support Group 42, Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL as the Group Sergeant Major.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, Combat Action Ribbon.
