In 2000 Private Daniel Botty enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA in Feb 2001, where he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class.  Private First Class Botty then reported to the School of Infantry (West), at Camp Pendleton, CA.
   
Private First Class Botty completed the School of Infantry (0311) in March 2001 and was then sent to the Light Armored Vehicle crewman course that he completed in May 2001, as a LAV Crewman (0313).  From May 2001 to Dec 2003 Private First Class Botty was then assigned to 2nd LAR Battalion, Alpha Company, Camp Lejeune, NC where he was promoted to the ranks of Lance Corporal, and Corporal, while holding the billets of driver, gunner, and vehicle commander. 
 
Corporal Botty deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, in February 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Joint Task Force Liberia. In 2004 Corporal Botty deployed with Regimental Combat Team 1, Delta Company 2nd LAR as a vehicle commander in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II in Fallujah.  After returning from the deployment, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

In Dec 2004, Sergeant Botty completed his active duty obligated service and transferred to individual ready reserve. 

In Dec 2005, Sergeant Botty joined the select Marine Corps Reserve with Military Police Company 4th Marine Division.  During this time with MPCO Sergeant Botty served as a Squad Leader, Platoon Guide, Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, and Company Gunnery Sergeant. 
 
In June 2008 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was the acting Company Gunnery Sergeant.
  
In 2011 Staff Sergeant Botty completed the school for Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor. He then was deployed in support of Operation Onward Liberty to create the first Non-Lethal program for the Liberian Military. Upon his return Staff Sergeant Botty was assigned as Platoon Commander for 1st Platoon where he was promoted the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in November 2012.

In 2013 Gunnery Sergeant Botty was then assigned to newly formed 4th Law Enforcement Bn HQ Co as the Company Gunnery Sergeant and served as the 4th LEB senior Non-Lethal Instructor. During his time as a Non-Lethal Instructor, Gunnery Sergeant Botty supported 9 OCONUS Annual training exercises as the Non-Lethal Instructor SNCOIC.
First Sergeant Botty was promoted in 2016 and served as the Company First Sergeant for Delta Co 4th LE Bn in Billings Montana, with a detachment in Anchorage Alaska.  
In 2018 First Sergeant Botty served also served as the acting Bn SgtMaj for 4th LE Bn.

In May of 2019 First Sergeant Botty was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Alpha Company 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Bn in Camp Pendleton CA.

In May of 2021 Sergeant Major Botty was promoted to his current rank and was assigned to his current unit Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron 764, MAG-41, 4th MAW
Sergeant Major Botty’s personal awards include the  Purple Heart, Navy Commendation Medal w/2 gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/combat V, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Select Marine Corps Reserve Medal w/three bronze stars in lieu of fourth award.
