Lieutenant Colonel Michael S. Duffy
Inspector Instructor
5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment

Lieutenant Colonel Michael “Mick” Duffy is a native of Grafton, OH.  He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and was commissioned in December 2004 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. 

After completing The Basic School and Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Lieutenant Colonel Duffy reported to 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment. While assigned to 5/10 he served as Fire Direction Officer and Executive Officer, Battery R. During this tour he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom as a provisional Civil Affairs Team Leader, and on the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Artillery Liaison Officer for Battalion Landing Team 3/2.

In January 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Duffy transferred to Okinawa, Japan. During calendar year 2010 he was assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Fire Support Officer. From 2011 to 2013, he served as a Firepower Controller and Air Officer with 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company where he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In July 2013, Lieutenant Colonel Duffy transferred to Expeditionary Warfare School.

Lieutenant Colonel Duffy was assigned to 2d Battalion, 11th Marines in Camp Pendleton, CA, in May 2014, where he served as Commanding Officer of Battery F, Assistant Fire Support Coordinator for 5th Marine Regiment, and Fires and Effects Coordinator for Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command 16.2. He deployed with Battery F on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and with SPMAGTF-CR-CC 16.2 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

In July 2017, Lieutenant Colonel Duffy reported to Marine Corps Command and Staff College, where he earned a Master of Military Studies degree. He subsequently served as a Faculty Advisory at Expeditionary Warfare School. Lieutenant Colonel Duffy returned to Camp Pendleton in June 2019, where he served as Operations Officer, 2d Battalion, 11th Marines, Assistant Fire Support Coordinator, 1st Marine Division, and Deputy Fires and Effects Coordinator, I Marine Expeditionary Force.

He assumed his current duties as Inspector Instructor, 5th Battalion, 14th Marines in May 2022.
