First Sergeant Nickea Y. Redding

First Sergeant Redding is a native of Mount Vernon, New York. In June 2000, she graduated from Lincoln High School, Yonkers, New York and within one month she underwent recruit training with Company O, 4th Recruit Training Battalion from July to October 2000.

In November 2000, PFC Redding completed Marine Combat Training in Camp Geiger, North Carolina and was subsequently assigned the Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) of Field Radio Operator. Upon completion of MOS school, her first tour of duty was with 3d Marine Wing Aircraft Wing, Marine Wing Support Group-37, Marine Wing Support Squadron-372, Camp Pendleton California. In April 2001, PFC Redding was promoted to Lance Corporal then to Corporal in September 2002. In December 2002, Corporal Redding served as the primary radio operator for the forward element in support of the initial invasion of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In July 2004, Corporal Redding was promoted to Sergeant.

Sergeant Redding reported to Officer Candidates School, Quantico, Virginia in October 2004, for duty as a Support Noncommissioned Officer (NCO), Training NCO and Substance Abuse Control Officer (SACO). In March 2005, Sergeant Redding graduated resident Sergeants Course aboard MCB Quantico and afterwards assigned to teach substance abuse classes to officer candidates. In March of 2007, Sergeant Redding assumed the duties as the Company Gunnery Sergeant of Headquarters and Service Company until she reported to Drill Instructor School (DISc) Class 1-08 in October 2007. Upon completion of DISc she was assigned to Company O as a Drill Instructor, and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in March 2008. During her tour on the Drill Field, Staff Sergeant Redding successfully completed three Drill Instructor cycles, two Senior Drill Instructor cycles, three Chief Drill Instructor cycles, and served as the SNCOIC of Academic Instruction Section until February 2011.

In March 2011, Staff Sergeant Redding reported to The Basic School, Instructor Battalion, Combat Service Support Company, for duty as the Radio Chief of the Communications Platoon. She graduated resident Career Course aboard MCB Quantico, attended Radio Chief Course in Twenty-nine Palms until she received change of assignment orders to Communications Officer School. She performed duties as a Radio Chief, Data Chief, Platoon Sergeant, and Basic Communications Officer Course (BCOC) operations chief from May 2012 to August 2014. She participated in the OCS summer bulldog programs of 2011, 2012, and 2014 as a Sergeant Instructor and Platoon Sergeant respectively. In September 2013, she was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, and successively graduated resident Advanced Course at SNCOA aboard MCB Quantico. Gunnery Sergeant Redding reported to 7th Communication Battalion, Okinawa Japan, for duty as the Transmissions Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant for Company B, from September 2014 April 2016.

In April 2016 Gunnery Sergeant Redding reported to to Officer Candidates School (Perm Per) where she performed the duties of a Sergeant Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, Academics Instructor, Company Gunnery Sergeant, and Company First Sergeant. In July 2018, she was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. From October 2018 to March 2020 First Sergeant Redding was assigned as the Inspector Instructor First Sergeant of RFL Company A, 1st Battalion 24th Marines, 25th Marine Regiment.

First Sergeant Redding has a Bachelor’s degree of Science degree in Information Technology Management, her personal awards include the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (third award), and Good Conduct Medal (sixth award).
