Sergeant Major Rodrigo Casillas

Sergeant Major Rodrigo Casillas enlisted in the Marine Corps in East Los Angeles, California and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego where he graduated in September 1994. In October 1994, SgtMaj Casillas was promoted to Private First Class then transferred to Fort Lee, VA for Bulk Fuel Specialist School. Upon graduation in January 1995, he was then assigned to the 6th Engineer Support Battalion Reserve Unit in Bakersfield, CA.  In October 1996, SgtMaj Casillas was reassigned to 4th Low Air Altitude Defense, Headquarters and Service Company as a Motor Transport Operator. In 1998, SgtMaj Casillas was promoted to the rank of Corporal.

In March 2000, SgtMaj Casillas executed temporary orders as a recruiter’s assistant with Recruiting Station Los Angeles, Recruiting Sub-Station Montebello, CA for period of four months. Upon completion of assignment SgtMaj Casillas was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

In August 2000, SgtMaj Casillas received extended active duty orders and reported to recruiter’s school at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, for duty as a student. SgtMaj Casillas graduated and was ordered to 12th Marine Corps District, RSLA, RSS Boyle Heights, CA for duty as a Canvassing Recruiter. While assigned to RSS Boyle Heights, SgtMaj Casillas was selected as the Fiscal Year 2001 “Rookie Recruiter of the Year” and Fiscal Year 2003 “Recruiter of the Year” for RS Los Angeles. During his 1st tour SgtMaj Casillas achieved the “Centurion” award which is presented to a canvassing recruiter who successfully enlists 100 applicants within a 36 month tour. SgtMaj Casillas accomplished this within 30 months. In January 2004 SgtMaj Casillas was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant. SgtMaj Casillas served as the assistant Staff Non Commissioned Officer In charge of RSS Boyle Heights 2004, RSLA Military Enlistment Processing Station Liaison 2005 and SNCOIC of RSS Glendale in 2006. RSS Glendale under my Leadership received multiple awards such as RSLA overachiever medium station for the 2nd quarter in 2006.

Following Recruiting Duty in December 2006, SgtMaj Casillas was transferred to the Inactive Ready Reserve. In September 2007 SgtMaj Casillas joined the Selected Marine Corps Reserve and was assigned to 4th Tanks, Delta Company, Moreno Valley, CA as the Platoon Sergeant.

In January 2008, SgtMaj Casillas received mobilization orders to Security and Emergency Services Battalion, Headquarters and Support Company, Camp Pendleton, CA as the Individualized Mobilized Augmentee-Detachment Operations Chief. SgtMaj Casillas was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In December 2009, SgtMaj Casillas executed PCS orders to Wounded Warrior Battalion (West), Camp Pendleton, CA as the Battalion Training Chief and Assistant Operations Chief. During 67 months at WWBn(W) SgtMaj Casillas held a total of 11 different billets.

In July 2015, SgtMaj Casillas was then transferred back to SMCR, to Truck Company, 23D Marines to serve as the Company First Sergeant, Las Vegas, NV, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In February 2018 SgtMaj Casillas was activated with SPMAGTF-SC 18 and served as the command and ground element First Sergeant until December 2018. SgtMaj Casillas upon return, resume 1stSgt responsibilities with Truck Company until September 2019.

In October 2019, SgtMaj Casillas initiated assingment to Anti Tank Company, 25th Marines, Brocken Arrow Oklahoma were he served as the Company First Sergeant.

In March 2020, SgtMaj Casillas was selected for Sergeant Major and assigned to Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 4, Marine Aircraft Group 41, 4TH Marine Air Wing, Camp Talega, CA as the Squadron Sergeant Major.

SgtMaj Casillas is a graduate of California State University Los Angeles (BA, Criminal Justice Minor in Sociology). His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal(3rd award) Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd award) and Marine Corps recruiting service (2nd award).
