Captain Shockley was accepted into the Marine Corps Officer Candidates Course in April 2017 and reported to Officer Candidates School aboard Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico in June 2017 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon completion.
Following commissioning, Captain Shockley attended The Basic School at MCB Quantico from October 2017 to April 2018. He subsequently completed the Armor Basic Officer Leaders Course at Fort Moore, Georgia, graduating in the top ten percent of his class and earning a place on the Commandant's List.
In November 2018, Captain Shockley reported to Company A, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division at MCB Camp Pendleton, where he served as a Platoon Commander. During his tenure, the company successfully completed one pre-deployment work-up, which resulted in the unit's designation as 4th Marine Division's “ready bench” armor company. For his contributions, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Following the divestment of Marine Corps armor capabilities in fall 2020, Captain Shockley completed the Light Armored Reconnaissance Leaders Course and executed an inter-unit transfer to Company A, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (LAR Bn), 4th Marine Division, also at MCB Camp Pendleton. He served with Company A as a Platoon Commander until October 2022.
In fall 2022, Captain Shockley transferred to Company C, 4th LAR Bn, 4th Marine Division in Boise, Idaho, where he assumed the role of Company Executive Officer. During his tenure as Company Executive Officer, Company C was recognized with the Clifton B. Cates Award as the most outstanding company in 4th Marine Division. For his contributions to the successful mobilization, deployment, and redeployment of Company C in support of Unit Deployment Program (UDP) 24.1 in Okinawa, Japan - the first such deployment by a reserve company in over a decade - Captain Shockley was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
In October 2024, Captain Shockley assumed command of Company B, 4th LAR Bn, 4th Marine Division, located at Fort Detrick, Maryland.
Captain Shockley holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Missouri (2013) and served for four years as an Emergency Department/Trauma Registered Nurse in a Level I trauma center prior to commissioning.
