Sergeant Major John E. Brodie

Sergeant Major Brodie is a native of Pasadena, TX. After completing high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. he completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA in October 1988. Private Brodie then reported to Aircraft Firefighting and Rescue School, Naval Air Station Memphis, in Millington TN.

Private Brodie completed the Aircraft Firefighting and Rescue School in December 1988 as Aircraft Firefighting Specialist (7051). From January 1989 to August 1993 Private First Class Brodie was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 271, Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue, NC where he was promoted to the ranks of Private First Class (meritoriously), Lance Corporal and Corporal. Also holding the billets of Driver, Truckmaster and Training NCO.

Corporal Brodie deployed with MWSS, in January 1991 in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Corporal Brodie returned to Bogue Field and served honorably until his
release from active duty in August of 1993.

In 2002, Corporal Brodie, feeling compelled once again to serve his country, joined the Selected Marine Corps Reserve. Corporal Brodie was assigned to 1st Battalion 23d Marines, Headquarters and Service Company in Houston, TX. In 2004, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and attended the Intelligence Basic Course in Dam Neck, VA. Upon completion of this course he attained the MOS of 0231 Intelligence Specialist. Later that same year, Sergeant Brodie deployed with 1st Battalion 23d Marines in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as an Intelligence Specialist.

In October of 2006, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Brodie joined Intelligence Support Battalion, Production Team 1, B Company in San
Antonio, TX in August of 2006. During his tenure with ISB, Staff Sergeant Brodie served in the capacity of Intelligence Specialist, Intelligence Production Team NCOIC and Senior Enlisted Advisor.

In January 2008, Staff Sergeant Brodie re-joined 1st Battalion 23d Marines H&S Company, in Houston, TX serving as the Battalion Intelligence Chief. In 2010, Staff
Sergeant Brodie attended the Marine Corps Intelligence Career Course at Dam Neck, VA. In October 2010, Staff Sergeant Brodie deployed with 1st Battalion 23d Marines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Battalion Intelligence Officer.

After his return from deployment, he remained with 1st Battalion 23d Marines serving as the Intelligence Chief and H&S Company Gunnery Sergeant. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in May of 2012 and served as the Company First Sergeant for 1st Battalion 23d Marines, B Company in Bossier City, LA.

In June 2016, he was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and assigned to Maintenance Company (-), CLB-452 serving as the Company First Sergeant. After a successful initial tour as a First Sergeant, First Sergeant Brodie was assigned a subsequent tour with 1st Battalion 23d Marines H&S Company, in Houston, TX.

In May of 2021, Sergeant Major Brodie was promoted to his current rank and was assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron-41 in Fort Worth, TX. 

Sergeant Major Brodie’s personal awards include the Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ two gold star in lieu of third award,
Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Selected Marines Corps Reserve Medal w/ four bronze stars lieu of fifth award and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “2” “X” and “M”
devices.
