Major Daniel Kent

Major Kent is a native of Dorchester, United Kingdom. He enlisted in the United States Navy in June 2005. During his enlistment he was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 102 (VFA-102) at Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan, where he completed two Western Pacific deployments aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. He was promoted to Aviation Electrician’s Mate Third Class in March 2007. 

Selected to attend the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island, Major Kent subsequently earned an appointment to the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Science. Upon commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, he completed The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia in January 2013, and subsequently graduated from the U.S. Army Military Police Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in July 2013. 

In August 2013, Major Kent reported to 2d Law Enforcement Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served as a Platoon Commander. In March 2014, he deployed with 1st Platoon, Bravo Company to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. Upon returning, he piloted a Fleet Assistance Program with the Provost Marshal Office (PMO), Camp Lejeune, testing the feasibility of one-year rotation tours. Following a successful tour with PMO, Major Kent returned to 2d Law Enforcement Battalion as the Battalion Training Officer. 

In July 2016, Major Kent reported to San Diego, California where he served as the Antiterrorism Officer for 3d Marine Aircraft Wing. In this role, he supported numerous exercises and assisted the 42 subordinate units with their Antiterrorism and Physical Security programs in his capacity as a Commanding General’s Inspection Team (CGI) Inspector. He was promoted to Captain in May 2017. In October 2018, Major Kent was selected to serve as the Liaison Officer for Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Peru (SPMAGTF Peru), where he coordinated contingency operations and supported country team objectives. 

Major Kent transferred to the Reserves in October 2019 to serve as a Marine Advisor with Marine Corps Advisor Company Alpha. In March 2020, Major Kent was mobilized with SPMAGTF – Southern Command as Officer-in-Charge of the Dominican Republic Security Cooperation Team. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the mission changed and he was selected to serve as the Tactical Supervisor for the Embarked Security Team aboard USNS Burlington. His team provided ship security during transit through the Panama Canal and throughout international waters and foreign ports in the Pacific. 

In June 2024, Major Kent led a team of Marine Advisors to Viña del Mar, Chile, where he served as Officer-in-Charge of a Wargaming Subject Matter Expert Exchange. This engagement strengthened strategic partnerships and produced critical lessons learned for both Chilean and U.S. forces. In September 2024, he served as the Plans and Operations Subject Matter Expert during Exercise Heraleea in Babadag, Romania, working with the 307th Naval Infantry Regiment. There, he instructed Romanian officers on the Marine Corps Planning Process and advised in the development and execution of the exercise’s operational phases. 

Major Kent's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Navy Good Conduct Medal. 

Major Kent holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Kenan-Flagler Business School. In his civilian career, he serves as a Program Cost Analyst within the Advanced Mission Capabilities division at a major American aerospace and defense technology company.
