Major Conor Keating grew up in Massachusetts. He attended University of Maine starting in 2007 where he played football and graduated with a degree in international affairs in 2011. Major Keating commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through the Officer Candidates Course in November 2013. Following his graduation from the Infantry Officer Course, Major Keating reported to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines (V38), Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Upon arrival to V38, he was assigned as a Rifle Platoon Commander in India Company. In 2015 he deployed to Mihail Kogalniceanu, Romania and Novo Selo, Bulgaria as a member of the Black Sea Rotational Force (BSRF) Force Protection Company. Upon re-deployment in 2016, he was assigned as Company Executive Officer for India Company. In 2016, he spent two months conducting amphibious raids aboard the USS Carter-Hall in support of Baltic Operations. In 2017 he deployed for a second time as part of the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan and South Korea. Upon re-deployment he received orders to the Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group (MCSCG) in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Upon arrival at MCSCG in September 2017, Major Keating was assigned to the Coordination, Liaison, Assessment, and Training Section (CLATS) for the NORTHCOM and SOUTHCOM Areas of Operations where he served as an advisor working with foreign militaries, particularly the Colombian Marine Corps.
From September 2020-April 2021, Major Keating was a student at the Maneuver Captains Career Course (MCCC). Upon graduation from MCCC, Major Keating reported to V12 in Camp Lejeune.
Upon arrival to V12 Major Keating assumed command of Charlie Company from April 2021-May 2023. As part of the Infantry Battalion Experiment (IBEX), Charlie Company remained as the legacy rifle company within the battalion. In August of 2022, Major Keating deployed to Okinawa as part of the Unit Deployment Program. His company conducted exercise Keen Sword, a joint and bi-lateral exercise with the US Navy and Japanese Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade conducting ship to shore air assaults. Major Keating and his company redeployed to Camp Lejeune, NC in February 2023.
In May 2023, Major Keating assumed command of Division Training Company. During this time he was responsible for the execution of the Division Leadership Assessment Program, Division Signature Management Exploitation Course, Basic Machine Gun Course, and Division Off Road Mobility Course.
He is currently assigned as the Inspector-Instuctor for B Company, 1/25 out of Londonderry, NH.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, and 2 Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
