Major Brent Timmer is a native of West Olive, Michigan. He is a 2006 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. He commissioned in May of 2006 and subsequently attended the The Basic School (TBS) where he was selected to be an Armor Officer. Major Timmer graduated from Armor Officer Basic Course in Fort Knox, Kentucky in March of 2007 and was assigned to 1st Tank Battalion in 29 Palms, California. In May of 2007, Major Timmer checked into 1st Tank Battalion where he was he was assigned as Platoon Commander, 2d Platoon, Delta Company. In 2008, Major Timmer’s Platoon deployed to South Korea with 7th Marine Regiment as part of Exercise Foul Eagle. In 2009, Major Timmer deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as the tank Platoon Commander. Upon return from the MEU deployment, Major Timmer was assigned as the Battalion Anti-Tank Platoon Commander and then the Executive Officer for Charlie Company. Major Timmer deployed to Afghanistan with Charlie Company in 2010 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Upon return from deployment, Major Timmer was assigned to the Marine Detachment in Fort Knox, Kentucky were he served as an Armor Tactics Instructor at the Army’s Armor Basic Officer Leaders Course. Major Timmer served as an instructor for two years, instructing as well as assisting with the transition of the school house from Fort Knox, Kentucky to Fort Benning, Georgia.
In 2012, Major Timmer volunteered and was selected to deploy to Liberia, Africa in support of Operation ONWARD LIBERTY, assisting in the training and development of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL). Upon his return, he was selected to attend Maneuver Captains Career Course (MCCC) in Fort Benning, Georgia. In June of 2013, following graduation from MCCC, Major Timmer checked into 2d Tank Battalion in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Major Timmer attended Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course in Yuma, Arizona as part of the Ground Combat Department. Following completion of this course, Major Timmer was selected to be the Company Commander for Delta Company. Delta Company was deactivated in 2015 and Major Timmer deployed to Afghanistan on and Individual Augment (IA) billet in support of Operation RESOLUTE SUPPORT where he served on the CJ33 Staff in Kabul.
Major Timmer received orders to Marine Corps Systems Command in 2016 where he served as the Liaison officer to the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office for Ground Combat Systems (PEO-GCS) in Warren, Michigan. During his time as the Liaison he also served as a project officer for Active Protection System installation on the Abrams Main Battle Tank and for an Abrams Armor upgrade program. Major Timmer completed his Defense Acquisitions University (DAU) Level II training and certification in program management while in this billet.
Major Timmer returned to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF) in 2019, receiving orders to 2d Tank Battalion. Major Timmer served as the Headquarters and Service Company Commander as well as the Battalion Executive Officer. In 2020, the Marine Corps ordered that it would deactivate 2d Tank Battalions by 2021.
Major Timmer served as the Executive Officer for this divestment of 2d Tank Battalion, officially deactivating the unit on 5 May 2021. Major Timmer received orders to PM TRASYS in 2021 and was assigned to Synthetic Training System as the Project Team Lead for the Combat Vehicle Training Systems and Marksmanship Team as well as the project officer for the Marine Common Driver Trainer. Major Timmer served in several billets within PM TRASYS until recieving orders in the spring of 2024.
Major Timmer reported to E. Co. 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion to serve as the Inspector & Instructor in July of 2024 and currently serves in this billet.
Major Timmer’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Star in lieu of third award, Army Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
