Captain Sims reported to Officer Candidate School, Quantico, Virginia in May 2011. He graduated from Texas A&M University in May 2012 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. In November 2012, Second Lieutenant Sims reported to The Basic School, Quantico, Virginia and completed the Basic Officer Course. In September 2013, Second Lieutenant Sims completed the Infantry Officer Course.
Upon graduation from Infantry Officer Course, Second Lieutenant Sims reported to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines in Camp Pendleton, California and served as a Rifle Platoon Commander in C Company, deploying on Marine Rotational Force-Darwin (MRF-D) in 2014 where he participated in Exercise Koolendong and was promoted to First Lieutenant. Upon return, First Lieutenant Sims transitioned to A Company’s Executive Officer, deploying on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in 2015, where he participated in Exercise Cobra Gold and Exercise SSang Yong with the Battalion Landing Team’s (BLT) amphibious assault company.
First Lieutenant Sims reported to Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Fort Worth in May 2016, where he fulfilled the role of Executive Officer. He was promoted to Captain in December 2016 and led the NROTC scholarship program for the region. In May 2017, Captain Sims transitioned to Operations Officer of the recruiting station where he planned and oversaw the enlistment and shipping of 800+ poolees to boot camp annually. Captain Sims transitioned from active-duty in July 2019.
In August 2019, Captain Sims affiliated to an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) billet as a Reserve Support Officer with Marine Corps Recruiting Station Richmond. In January 2020, Captain Sims transferred to the IRR and subsequently transitioned out of the Marine Corps in 2021. In March 2024, Captain Sims re-commissioned into the Marine Corps Reserves and joined Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines in Terre Haute, Indiana to serve as Executive Officer & Weapons Platoon Commander. In September of 2025, Captain Sims assumed command of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines.
Captain Sims' decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award.
Captain Sims has a BBA in Management from Texas A&M University and a MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. In his civilian career, Captain Sims is the Director of Growth for a defense technology software startup.
