Biography

 

Major Greg McGough
Inspector-Instructor
Company B, 1st Battalion, 23d Marine Regiment

Major Greg McGough graduated from Texas A&M University and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 2008.  Upon completion of Infantry Officers Course in 2010, he served as an infantry platoon commander for 2d Battalion, 8th Marines where he deployed to the Republic of Georgia and Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.  He then served as Operations Officer, HQBN, 2d MARDIV from 2011-2013.  In 2013-2016, he served as a Coordination Liaison Assessment Team member at the Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group, deploying multiple times to EUCOM and AFRICOM theaters, planning and conducting security cooperation missions and exercises. In 2016-2017, he served as H&S Company Commander for 3d Bn, 8th Marine Regiment, deploying to INDOPACOM in support of Unit Deployment Program-17.  In 2017-2018, Major McGough served as Director, Battle Skills Training School.  In 2018-2020, he served as Training, Readiness, Assessments officer for 2d Marine Logistics Group.  From 2020-2023, Major McGough served as the Current Plans officer for NATO Joint Forces Command - Brunssum.  Major McGough is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar Program, Tactical MAGTF Integration Course, NATO Comprehensive Operations Planning Course, and Command and Staff Distance Education Program.  He is married to Anissa McGough and together have a son, Grady.  His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and being involved into his local church.  His personal awards include the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two gold stars in lieu of third award); and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
