Captain Travis F. Via is a native of Panama City, Florida. He attended Virginia Military Institute, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Internal Studies in 2015. Upon graduation, he reported to Officer Candidate School, Quantico, VA from May through June of 2015. In July of 2015, he was commissioned as a 2ndLt in the Marine Corps. In October of 2015, 2ndLt Via reported to The Basic School, Quantico, VA graduating in May of 2016. Upon graduation, 2ndLt Via was selected to attend Infantry Officer Course. In May of 2016, 2ndLt Via checked into Marines Awaiting Training Platoon. In July of 2016, 2ndLt Via began training with Infantry Officer Course 4-16. During the course, 2ndLt Via sustained an injury and returned to Marines Awaiting Training Platoon. In November of 2016, 2ndLt Via attended and graduated from Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival. In January of 2017, 2ndLt Via began training with Infantry Officer Course 2-17, graduating as an Infantry Officer in May of 2017 and receiving orders to 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. From March of 2017 through May of 2017, 2ndLt Via attended Light Armored Reconnaissance Leaders Course, graduating as a Light Armored Reconnaissance Officer and executing orders to 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.
In May of 2017, 2ndLt Via checked into Company A, 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion as a Platoon Commander. In July of 2017, 2ndLt Via was promoted to 1stLt. In August of 2017, 1stLt Via attended Anti-Terrorism Officer Level II training, to serve as the Battalion Assistant ATO. 1stLt Via also served as the program manager for the Battalion's Water Survival Program. While serving as a Platoon Commander, 1stLt Via supported two Marine Corps Combat Readiness Evaluations for 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines and 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines and two Battalion deployment for training exercises. In Mar of 2018, 1stLt Via attended the NATO Winter Course in Elverum, Norway.
In April of 2018, 1stLt Via was selected to serve as the Executive Officer for Co A, 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. While serving as the Executive Officer, 1stLt Via supported 2D Marine Division Trident Juncture, two Battalion Deployment for Training, National Training Center Fort Irwin Rotation 2-19, and two Battalion Gunnery qualifications. In July of 2019, 1stLt Via executed orders to Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Kings Bay. He was awarded the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
In July of 2019, 1stLt Via checked into Company A, Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Kings Bay as a platoon Commander. In 2019, 1stLt Via attended Watch Officer and Watch Chief course. In November of 2019, 1stLt Via was promoted to the rank of Captain. While serving as a Platoon Commander, Capt Via provided support to a Level III Restricted Area as the Area Supervisor, the transports of assets as a Convoy Commander, the Battalion Command Duty Officer, and support for one Naval Technical Nuclear Proficiency Inspections. In addition, Capt Via oversaw multiple training evolutions and live fire exercises for the Company.
In August of 2021, Capt Via was selected to move to H&S Company as the Executive Officer. While serving as the executive officer, Capt Via graduated Expeditionary Warfare School non-resident, provided support to a Level III Restricted Area as the Area Supervisor, the transports of assets as a Convoy Commander, and the Battalion Command Duty Officer, and support for one Naval Technical Nuclear Proficiency Inspections, and served as the Officer in Charge for two Tactical Small Unit Leadership Courses and Corporal Courses. In January of 2022, Capt Via was selected to take over as the Battalion Training Officer. In August of 2022, Capt Via resigned his commission and transfered to the Inactive Ready Reserve.
In July of 2023, Capt Via joined Company C, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment as the Company Executive Officer. In this role Capt Via provided support to monthly drills in planning and execution, development of live fire ranges, two Annual Training exercises, including Raven 5-24 and Atlantic Alliance 25.
In July of 2025, Capt Via assumed command of Company C, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment as the Company Commander, where he currently serves.
Capt Via's personal awards include the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (1 gold star in lieu of 2nd award).
