Major Samuel E. Sorenson
Inspector-Instructor
Bravo Company, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion

Major Sorenson was commissioned in May of 2016 and reported to The Basic School, Quantico, VA in September of 2016. Upon completion of The Basic School, he was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0302 Infantry Officer where he attended Infantry Officer Course, and upon graduation was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, 2d Marine Division.

In July 2017, Major Sorenson served as the Training Officer, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines until being assigned Combined Anti-Armor Platoon Commander with Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines from August 2017 to January 2019, leading his platoon during the unit's deployment under the Special Purpose MAGTF Crisis Response Africa 19.2, Sigonella, Italy. While deployed, Major Sorenson served as Security Force Team Leader in support contingency operations in Benina, Libya and Theater Support Cooperation (TSC) Team Leader during TSC engagements in Bizerte, Tunisia. Upon returning in October 2018, Major Sorenson prepared future training plans until receiving orders to 2d Battalion, 6th Marines in January 2019 where he was assigned as the Executive Officer of Golf Company through the company's deployment under Task Force Southwest to Helmand Province, Afghanistan from September 2019 to June 2020.

In August 2020, Major Sorenson reported to Basic Reconnaissance Course (BRC), Reconnaissance Training Company, School of Infantry - West, graduating in December 2020 as an 0307 Expeditionary Ground Reconnaissance Officer, and received orders to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division. Upon Completion of BRC, Major Sorenson was assigned Assistant Operations Officer, 2d Battalion, 6th Marines and attended Basic Airborne and Multi-Mission Parachutist Course while awaiting orders to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division in April 2021. After reporting to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Major Sorenson was selected to serve as the Force Company Operations Officer in May 2021. In August, Major Sorenson took over as Force 1 Platoon Commander where he coordinated and deployed one of his Force Reconnaissance Teams in support of JTF-Haiti in a Humanitarian and Disaster Relief Mission while simultaneously planning, deploying, and leading another Force Reconnaissance Team to Ancon and Iquitos, Peru in support of Exercise UNITAS 21 and a bilateral exchange with Peruvian Commandos.

Major Sorenson took over H&S Company, 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division as Company Commander on 31 Mar 2022. As H&S Company Commander, Major Sorenson led planning efforts for several engagements in South America. Additionally, he led a small Reconnaissance Team on the first recon cold weather Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) with Argentina Marines in Ushuaia, Argentina in August of 2022. Shortly after the SMEE he turned to planning with French counterparts for an upcoming French Exercise, NARVAL 22 where he served as the Recon Subject Matter Expert for the French amphibious combined planning exercise. Upon returning from Exercise NARVAL 22, Major Sorenson conducted a change of command to take over Charlie Company, 2d Reconnaissance Battalion on 9 December 2022. Major Sorenson coordinated Charlie Company's participation in in several bilateral and multinational exercises occurring both inside the United States and abroad before executing PCS Orders to NAVSPECWARCOM, San Diego in October 2023.

At Naval Special Warfare Command, Major Sorenson served as Marine Reconnaissance Liaison and Director of Fleet and Joint Integration where he worked directly with Theater Special Operations Commands, Fleet Commands, Naval Warfare Development Centers, Air Force and Marine Corps Weapons Schools, and experimentation community of interest to drive cutting edge operational mission concepts for special operations forces. Major Sorenson recently executed PCS Orders to Smyrna, Georgia to serve as Inspector and Instructor, Bravo Company, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion.

Major Sorenson is a native of Etters, Pennsylvania. He attended college at the United State Naval Academy where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star and combat "C" device, and the Volunteer Service Medal.
