Colonel Philip H. Steuber is a native of Long Beach, California. He received his commission in December 1998 upon graduation from Officer Candidate's School. After completing the Basic School and Infantry Officers Course, he was assigned to Echo Company, 2D Battalion, 7th Marines where from 1999 to 2003, Colonel Steuber served as a Rifle Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer. During this period, he participated in numerous CAX and Steel Knight exercises. As well, Colonel Steuber completed two deployments to the INDOPACOM AOR.
In January 2024, Col Steuber joined II MEF, serving as the Ground Combat Element Executive Officer with SPMAGTF UNITAS from January 2004 to August 2004. During this period, Colonel Steuber deployed to Central and South America in support of joint operations and training.
In September 2004, Colonel Steuber joined 2D Battalion 23D Marines. During this time Colonel Steuber served as a Platoon Commander and H&S Company Commander, participating in several large-scale exercises to include BALTOPs and Mojave Viper. In 2008, Colonel Steuber assumed command of Fox Company 2D Battalion, 23D Marines and deployed to Ramadi, Iraq in Support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
From 2010 to 2012, Colonel Steuber served with Force Headquarters Group as the PWST Officer-in-Charge Los Alamitos. During this same period, Colonel Steuber completed the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.
From January 2013 to June 2015, Colonel Steuber served with 2D Battalion 23D Marines as the Battalion Operations Officer and the Battalion Executive Officer. During this time, the unit participated in Exercise Dawn Blitz and the Integrated Training Exercise (ITX).
From July 2015 to July 2016, Colonel Steuber served as the Commanding Officer of Mobilization Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West, where he supported and augmented the active component training battalions.
From August 2016 to August 2018 Colonel Steuber was the Commanding Officer of 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division. During this time, Colonel Steuber deployed detachments in support of operations in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East and numerous CONUS-based large-scale exercises.
From September 2018 to May 2020, Colonel Steuber served as the officer-in-charge of the Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Training Group's reserve detachment. During this period, Colonel Steuber instructed battalion and regimental level staffs on command and control and supported several MAGTF Warfighting Exercises (MWX).
From June 2020 to July 2022, Colonel Steuber was the G-3 for the Marine Forces Reserve, Force Headquarters Group during which he assisted in the planning and support of various operations and deployments throughout multiple combatant commands. From August 2022 to January 2024, Colonel Steuber served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Western Recruiting Region's (WRR) Recruiting Support Officer program reporting directly to the Commanding General MCRD/WRR.
Colonel Steuber is a graduate of the Infantry Officers Course, Summer and Winter Mountain Leaders Courses, Expeditionary Warfare School, and the Marine Corps Command Staff College. He also holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California where he was 3 x Dean's List Scholar, a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University, and a Master's Degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College where he was a distinguished graduate.
