Col Daniel Ponzo is the Senior Reserve Advisor for 23d Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division. He was commissioned through the NROTC program at The George Washington University in May of 2002.
His active-duty assignments include Combat Engineer Platoon Commander at 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, the Facilities Maintenance officer and subsequently the Future Operations and Plans Officer for the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, and the Advisor Training Branch OIC at I MEF Expeditionary Operations Training Branch. LtCol Ponzo deployed twice as a Platoon Commander to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
His reserve assignments include Company Commander with Company G 2d Battalion, 23d Marines. Operations Officer and Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, Operations Officer at 2nd Battalion, 23d Marines; the Operations Officer for the Marine Corps Advisor Company – Bravo and most recently as the Commanding Office of 4th Combat Engineer Battalion. LtCol Ponzo deployed twice as a mobilized reservist; once in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and once to UDP-W 19.1.
Col Ponzo is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School (DEP), Command and Staff College (DEP), and the NATO Defense College (FLS). Col Ponzo is currently enrolled in JPME-II at the Joint, Combined Warfare School. Civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts in History from The George Washington University and a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
