Captain Syleida H. Ellis is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana. In 2015, she graduated from Nicholls State University receiving a Bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies, with minors in Social Sciences, Sociology and Humanities. Captain Ellis commissioned in the United States Marine Corps in 2017.
Captain Ellis completed The Basic Officer Course in February 2018 located in Quantico, Virginia. From February 2018 to May 2018, she completed Ground Supply Officer School.
Upon graduation from Ground Supply Officer School, Captain Ellis executed orders to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1 located on Camp Foster, Okinawa Japan. She served as the Supply Officer as well as the Suicide Prevention Program Officer.
In June 2019, Captain Ellis reported to Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 38. After completing all actions associated with the deactivation of the unit December 2021, she received orders to 2nd Battalion, 23d Marine Regiment. She is currently serving as the Battalion Assistant Inspector-Instructor, H&S Company Inspector-Instructor and Supply Officer.
Captain Ellis’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
