Major Martin is a native of in Springfield, Massachusettes, and was raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Houston, Texas. He graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 2002 with a BA in English and a BA in German. In August 2007, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and subsequently graduated from The Basic School (TBS) in March 2008. Following TBS, Lieutenant Martin completed the Infantry Officer Course (IOC) in June 2008.
After graduating from IOC, Lieutenant Martin reported to 3d Battalion, 9th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and was then assigned to Lima Company where he served as a rifle platoon commander deploying to Al Albar Province in Iraq in 2009, and later served as the company executive officer deploying to Marjah, Afghanistan in 2010. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in October 2011.
In February 2012, Captain Martin checked in to Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group (TTECG) in Twentynine Palms, California. While assigned to TTECG, Captain Martin was involved in the control of multiple company and battalion-level live fire and maneuver exercises, as well as multiple fire support training events involving artillery and aviation fires.
In February 2015, Captain Martin moved to Fort Benning, Georgia as a student enrolled in the Maneuver Captains Career Course (MCCC).
Following graduation from MCCC, Captain Martin reported to Camp Pendleton, California and checked in to 1st Mairne Regiment, assuming command of Headquarters Company in August 2015. In January 2016, he reported to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines (V14) and assumed command of Alpha Company. During his tenure as Company Commander in V14, Captain Martin deployed as part of the Battalion Landing Team assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in October 2016. While deployed with the MEU, Captain Martin and Alpha Company trained and conducted operations in Hawaii, Sri Lanka, Djbouti in east Africa, and Oman. He returned to Camp Pendleton in May 2017, and he was promoted to Major (frocked) in July 2017.
In mid-July 2017, Major Martin moved to Yokosuka, Japan and assumed command of Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team-Pacific (FASTPAC). Over the next four years with FASTPAC, Major Martin and his Marines supported site security missions in the Philippines; embarked security team missions throughout Indo-Pacific region; underway periods aboard the USS BLUE RIDGE; bilateral training exchanges in Sri Lanka, Timor Leste, and Bangladesh; and engagements with Department of State personnel.
In July 2021, Major Martin returned to Twentynine Palms, California and checked in to 7th Marine Regiment where he was assigned as the Assistant Operations Officer. During his time with 7th Marine Regiment, Major Martin managed and supervised the production of multiple required outputs from the Regiment to 1st Marine Division, and was involved in the planning and execution of battalion Marine Corps Combat Readiness Evaluations, and service-level training exercises to include three MAGTF Warfighting Exercises and one Integrated Training Exercise.
In July 2023, Major Martin assumed his current duty assignment as Inspector-Instructor for Kilo Company, 3d Battalion, 23d Marine Regiment in Smyrna, Tennessee.
