Major Thomas A. Zackary Jr.
Inspector - Instructor
WEAPONS COMPANY, 3D BATTALION 23D MARINES

Major Thomas A. Zackary Jr. is currently serving as the Inspector-Instructor for the Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 23d Marines.

Major Zackary enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in October 2005 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. In February 2006 he graduated from recruit training and reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton where he attended Marine Combat Training. Upon graduation, Major Zackary attended Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Planners Course to become an Enlisted MAGTF Planning Specialist and was assigned to the 24th Marine Regiment. In October 2006, Major Zackary was activated and assigned to Mobilization Command (MOBCOM). While at MOBCOM Major Zackary received orders to attend Officer Candidate School. In April 2007, Major Zackary reported to The Basic School and graduated in October 2007. He was selected for the MOS of 0302 and completed Infantry Officer Course in April 2008.

In April 2008, Major Zackary reported to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, and was assigned as 3d Platoon Commander, Company K. In April 2009 he deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM in Al-Anbar, Iraq. Following redeployment Major Zackary assumed the billet of Executive Officer, Weapons Company. In April 2010, Major Zackary deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in the Nawa district of Helmand Province.

In March 2011, he reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego where he served as a Series Commander and Company Executive Officer, Company K; 3d Recruit Training Battalion Operations Officer and Headquarters Company Commander; Company Executive Officer and Company Commander, Company M.

In November 2014, he reported to Fort Benning, Georgia and attended the US Army's Maneuver Captain's Career Course.

In June 2015, he reported to 2d Battalion, 7th Marines, Marine Air Ground Combat Center, and assumed command of Company E. In April of 2016 he deployed in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE in Al-Anbar, Iraq.

In July 2017, he reported to III MEF Expeditionary Operations Training Group where he served as the Amphibious Raids Branch Officer in Charge and Operations Officer.

In July 2019, he reported to 3d Marine Division where he served as the Southeast Asia and Oceania Exercise Planner. Planning Division participation in exercises BALIKATAN, COBRA GOLD, VALIANT SHIELD, KAMADANG, and, Marine Rotational Force-Darwin.

In June 2020, he reported to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit where he served as the Future Operations Officer. Planning unit deployments and theater security cooperation efforts throughout the 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility.

In July 2021, he reported to his current posting as the Inspector-Instructor for Weapons Company 3d Battalion, 23d Marines, Springfield, Missouri.

Major Zackary holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Computer Science and Management Information Systems from Westminster College; Masters of Science in Information Technology specializing in Project Management and a Masters of Business Administration from University of Maryland University College. Currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in International Relations from New England College. Major Zackary is also a distinguished graduate of the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program, graduate of the US Army's Maneuver Captain's Career Course, graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College Distance Education Program, and graduate of the Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group Advance Maneuver Warfare Course.

Major Zackary's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Drill Instructor Ribbon.
