First Sergeant R.T. Wilson is a native of Kentucky and enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 2005. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, completed Marine Combat Training, and graduated from the Personnel Administration Course, earning the MOS 0121.
In January 2006, Private Wilson reported to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base Smedley D. Butler, Okinawa, where he served as a Promotions and Customer Service Clerk at the Installation Personnel Administration Center. During this assignment, he was promoted to Private First Class and later to Lance Corporal before departing in December 2006 to attend Marine Security Guard School.
Lance Corporal Wilson graduated Marine Security Guard School in March 2007, earning the MOS 8151 (now 8156), and reported to U.S. Embassy Islamabad, Pakistan, where he served as the Training Noncommissioned Officer and was promoted to Corporal. In March 2008, he reported to U.S. Embassy Prague, Czech Republic, serving as the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Response Noncommissioned Officer. While assigned, he supported U.S. Consulate Munich and assisted with two Secretary of State security details. He was promoted to Sergeant and later reported to U.S. Embassy Bogotá, Colombia, in March 2009.
In October 2010, Sergeant Wilson reported to Inspector-Instructor Staff, Lima Company, 3d Battalion, 24th Marines, in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he served as the Administration Noncommissioned Officer. During this period, he conducted over 100 military funeral honors in support of fallen service members and their families.
In January 2013, Sergeant Wilson reported to Inspector-Instructor Staff, Company F, 2d Battalion, 23d Marines, and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in March 2013. He executed over 60 additional funeral honors details, served as a Casualty Assistance Calls Officer on four occasions, and was selected to serve as the Reserve Career Planner.
In April 2016, Staff Sergeant Wilson transitioned to the Individual Ready Reserve. In March 2017, he mobilized to Kuwait as the Operations Chief for the MARCENT Coordination Element–Kuwait and served as the Senior Enlisted Marine at Ali Al Salem Air Base, coordinating theater movements for MARCENT augmentees and task forces. He also conducted an Additive Manufacturing assessment in Raqqa Syria during this tour.
In January 2018, he mobilized to Marine Forces Europe and Africa as the Program Chief for the Georgia Deployment Program in support of Operation Resolute Support. During this assignment, he synchronized operations across multiple Combatant Commands, served as the Liaison Officer to U.S. Embassy Tbilisi, Georgia, and led multinational site surveys to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.
In January 2021, Staff Sergeant Wilson joined the Joint Staff J-35 (South) Individual Mobilization Augmentee Detachment as a Global Force Management Specialist and Senior Enlisted Leader. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in April of 2022, then in November 2022, he was selected for duty with the Russia–Ukraine Crisis Management Team at the Pentagon and mobilized from December 2022 to October 2023. During this period, he supported Congressional engagements, integrated operations and information across all domains for senior Joint Staff leadership, and improved crisis common operational pictures and senior leader decision-support dashboards.
In January 2024, Gunnery Sergeant Wilson conducted an Inter-Unit Transfer to Marine Corps Advisor Company Alpha, where he served as the Administrative Advisor for Team 2. He completed the Security Cooperation Planners Course (0560) and supported Exercises IWX Ridge Runner and African Lion. In fall of 2025, Gunnery Sergeant Wilson was selected to be the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader and Company First Sergeant for Communications Company, 4th CRR, 4th MLG.
First Sergeant Wilson was promoted to his current rank in December 2025 and transferred to Communications Company for duty in January 2026.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x3).
First Sergeant Wilson holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Western Governors University, a technical Certificate in Industrial Manufacturing, a Certificate in Additive Manufacturing, and a Single Engine - Land, Private Pilot License.
