Biography

 

Captain Brandan F. Bertoglio
Company Commander
Alpha Co., 4th Combat Engineer Battalion

Captain Bertoglio is a native of Orange, California. He graduated from Saint Mary's College of California in 2013, and  successfully completed career of eight years as a project manager and superintendent in the Southern California construction industry prior to active-duty service in the Marine Corps. In 2021, Captain Bertoglio completed Officer Candidates School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

Captain Bertoglio completed The Basic School in October 2021 and the Combat Engineer Officer's Course in March 2022. Assigned to Engineer Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, he served as Heavy Equipment Platoon Commander, Combat Engineer Platoon Commander, and Executive Officer. He participated in WTI 1-23, ITX 2-24, and was the exercise lead for Innovation Readiness Training Custer State Park in 2023.

In March of 2024, Captain Bertoglio assumed the role of Assistant Operations Officer for MWSS-271. Assigned as a lead planner and exercise controller for Northern Viking 24, he worked alongside 6th Fleet N7 and CTF 68 staff and commanders, Icelandic host national representatives, and foreign allies. Other tactical planning and participation on large-scale training exercises included Fleet Battle Problem 24, Summer Pioneer 24, and support for the Cherry Point Air Show, WTI-1-25, and SLTE 1-25.

In January of 2025, Captain Bertoglio assumed command of Engineer Company, MWSS-271, while maintaining his role as the squadron's Antiterrorism Officer. Upon completion of Active-Duty service in October 2025, Captain Bertoglio accepted a commission in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and assumed his current duties as Company Commander of Alpha Company, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division in December of 2025.

Captain Bertoglio holds a bachelor's degree in business administration, a minor in Spanish, and a certification from the
USMC Watch Officer Course.

Captain Bertoglio's Personal Awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
