Captain Luis Hernandez is a native of Amarillo, Texas. In 2014 he reported to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. On May 25, 2018 he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Quantitative Economics and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. After attending The Basic School aboard Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico, Virginia he was assigned his Military Occupational Specialty as a Combat Engineer and reported to the Combat Engineer Officers Course, MCB Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
In September 2019, Second Lieutenant Hernandez reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 274, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina where he would serve as the Heavy Equipment Platoon Commander, the Combat Engineer Platoon Commander, and eventually the Executive Officer of Engineer Company. In May 2020 he was promoted to First Lieutenant.
In May 2021, First Lieutenant Hernandez reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 22, MCB Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where served as the Engineer Officer in Charge. In August 2022, his unit conducted a change of operational command to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) (26MEU(SOC)) in preparation for deployment. In January 2023, First Lieutenant Hernandez was promoted to the rank of Captain. While on deployment with the 26th MEU(SOC) Captain Hernandez would serve as the Combat Logistics Detachment Commander aboard the USS CARTER HALL.
In July 2024, Captain Hernandez assumed his current assignment as Inspector-Instructor, Bravo Company, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, Roanoke, Virginia.
Captain Hernandez's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
